Enjoying the first 1000 miles

2013 Chevrolet Volt 4dr Hatchback (gas/electric hybrid DD)

I've had the car for a month and put on about 1,000 miles. I've yet to put gas in the car, so from the EV perspective it works exactly as advertised. I bought it with all the bells and whistles. The interior isn't bad. It's a bit cramped and there isn't a lot of space in the back seat. The lack of electric seat adjustments is a major negative. My wife literally has to get out of the car to adjust the seat. We trade back and forth driving the car, so we're constantly pumping the lever to raise or lower the seat. It's very inconvenient. The other complaint is that the voice recognition and navigation system is a complete train wreck. Simple instructions like "Drive Home" or "Destination Home" are impossible. If you don't know the exact… command name in the list, the voice recognition is completely useless. I don't understand why I can tell my phone to "drive to bass hall" and it gives me directions to the door, but the Chevy nav system completely freaks out. Then, when it tries to send you to something ridiculous, like Baskeall, TX, (I don't think such a place exists), canceling the instructions takes several minutes. You have to wait for it to calculate the results and then talk your way through several menus before you can tell it delete the waypoint. Then it asks you which waypoint to delete (of the one available). Chevy could fix this with a software download. Let's hope they do. On the plus side, the car drives very well. It doesn't have 'power' in the traditional sense, but it really takes off. It's very smooth, nimble handling, and--of course--extremely quiet. I'm glad I bought the car and will consider the ELR when it comes out. In the meantime, though, Chevy needs to do some work on the voice commands and nav system.

Awesome performance of my 2013 Chevy Volt

I purchased my Volt in January 2016 and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The price was just right and the performance has been very good. It's not to say it has had its issues which were very minute and has been covered under the GM warranty. My car is the basic and did not have the rearview camera and navigation which I was kind of disappointed about . The navigation is great with the Onstar feature and sometimes is better than my Android even though I have to pay extra for it. I also like that it has a feature in case of emergencies and any other situation I may have. Any time I have had to use my Onstar feature the reps have been very cordial and helpful in every way possible. My rearview camera featureI obtained by getting a new mirror with the rearview feature enclosed and it works fine. I also do not use the car like others. My main goal is to increase my gas mileage and save my battery so I use the gas feature first and them switch to electric once I reach at least 10-20 mile to my destination. I do have a heavy foot so I do not get as much as other people but that said I still get between 32 to 45 miles per gallon combined. The performance has been great and I have had no major issues. The only thing I had to change were the tires and that was about 3500 miles ago. If I could I would purchase the new Volt with the better mileage and technology package. Love my Volt.

Amazing technology in a small package

The 2013 Chevy Volt is a small car with a big package! The interior is well made with many features. The drivetrain is the best in it's class (PHEV). It's the only PHEV that can use full acceleration without the gas engine coming on until the battery is used up (avg 40 miles). Battery range is less in cold weather. Driving it is still enjoyable after 5 years of ownership and 70K miles. This is the most flexible EV on the road - 30-40 miles of all-electric range with a fully capable gas backup for unlimited travel without waiting for a charge - just fill up with gas in 3 minutes like everybody else and keep on driving!

My review after 3 years of ownership

I purchased my 2013 Volt Premium off lease with 14k miles. Then drove it 85% of the time in electric mode for over 3 years to 65k miles. During this time, the ONLY issue was a passenger seat airbag. This car was super reliable and from reading on GM volt forums was “over built”. Meaning GM could not afford to let this car fail. I have since sold the volt and thinking of purchasing a newer generation or Bolt. I feel confident in GM battery technology and from what I have researched these cars are designed to handle 100,000 charge cycles. At 38-40 miles per charge = 380-400k miles on these batteries. Love the comfort of this car, could be quicker. Tight handling and smooth driving car.

Love my Volt. Never kept a car this long before.

I love cars and have a terrible new car addiction. Over the years I have had well over 20 cars in all different price ranges. I bought the Volt new in 2013 and still own it today, it has kept my interest longer than any other car I have had. I was looking for a 4 door hatchback/wagon that would be economical and I wanted the tax credit. After the tax credit, GM rebate and dealer discount I paid about $26,500 for one with leather, Bose and a somewhat worthless navigation system. The Navigation and poor user interface would be my biggest gripe about the car. I like the style, it drives really nice, rides good and is quiet. I love plugging in at home and not stopping for gas. Not sure I could go back to a gas only car. I bought the home charger and think that improves the experience 100%. Messing with the cord and slow charging is a PITA, get the fast charger. I had a few repairs, it had to be towed when it was newer because a battery control module was bad. All repairs were under warranty and haven't had any issues the last 2-3 years.
