Used 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Consumer Reviews
Good value
Had to replace engine at 220K. Currently at 250K. Hope to get 400K miles out of it; still running very well, no signs of transmission failure. Starting to experience some body rust. Not bad for a car I bought used for $10K with only 17K miles on it. Other than engine repairs are normal wear and tear. Car was favorably priced due to lack of cruise control, which to me was irrelevant.
Cruise with a smile
Ca6r is still great. Good ride and great mileage about 49 to galleon Still looks great. Abd smooth ride Wiladene

Fantastic car, Chevrolet's corolla...
I had two, base LS1.8 and all option LTZ 1.4T. Bought brand new before facelift. Cars perform flawlessly. LS is 58k miles with average 32.27MPG and LTZ 32.25MPG, still on factory tires. Both cars just... drive. LS was upgraded with factory Cruise Control (new steering wheel to gain physical controls and reprogramming in ADI dealer) after long trip without it. LTZ has no upgrades done as it came with all options. Pretty much nothing breaks down, so far LTZ had replaced main crankshaft seal (warranty), sunroof glass (recall) and 4 batteries (biggest downside of all electronics installed and push button start); LS - EVAP purge valve (MIL on, car stalling on idle, $50, 10 min swap at home) and windshield washer pump (pump leaking, $25, 30 min at home as well, for someone with basic tools and minimum skill). Maintenance is normal, just fluids at onboard computer indications, LTZ got brakes done after 70k miles (new rotors front due to age and warping, all pads 30% was still left) and iridium spark plugs are replaced every 40k to prevent issues with ignition coil on both. LS factory battery got replaced after almost 7 years as car was cranking slow. The good: Both cars drive, from oil change to oil change, require nearly nothing, not even a bulb replacement. Small hiccups described above, but never got stranded or had major failure. Cars are comfy, quiet inside, have very precise steering, bit of a gokart feel. Perfect for a commute or even a bit longer trip. Large fuel tank gives 500+ miles range between the fill-ups. The bad: My 1.8 transmission has pretty noisy pump, but works well and the 1.4T flares when just taking off cold between 1st and 2nd gear, does not happen after couple hundred yards driven. Dealer does not see issue with either. Funny thing, both are the same type and model of transmission and both issues are my cars specific. Tires - LS is on 215/60R16 Firestone and so far I think I can make 65000 miles till replacement, ride is nice and soft on those tires, LTZ came with low profile Michelin 225/45R18 and ride quality suffers, but as well tires will last me 75000 miles, extra 10000 miles over Firestones. Support for navigation. Mine has ended, can't get address sent to my factory unit from phone anymore, can't get a map update. My newly built house will always be on 'not digitized map'. 1.8 is very smooth, but a bit noisy as it gets power from RPMs, most annoying is the vibration it is causing at low rpm to the exhaust system that starts resonating, but it's just the engine's quirk. 1.4T is nice and quiet, plenty of torque, but has significant turbo lag, which is getting very pronounced in ambient temperature over 75F. At 95F it's 2 cars in 1, at low RPM it's dull, it does not want to accelerate, lack of power, transmission tries to keep RPM down to save fuel, then once over 3000RPM, the daemon wakes up and car nearly peels off, it gets annoying when driving from light to light in city traffic and car does not want to keep up with traffic on low RPM and transmission starts looking for gears giving sort of a seesaw ride. At temperatures below 75F, difference is almost not noticeable and it's quite fun to zip around. That 2 sides of the 1.4T would make me think twice to buy another model powered by the same engine, but definitely I am convinced turbo engine is the way to go just in general. Conclusion: Would I buy again? Yes and... yes. It is a great looking car, even 7 years from new, looks still fresh and modern, everything works in the car, upkeep is at bare minimum of expenses, even when I personally can't stand to have that 'one thing always broken' and those cars don't give me one. Either model is great, regardless if it's LS with 1.8 or the luxurious LTZ with 1.4 turbo. Overall, both cars were excellent choice, issues free and just overall reliable rides. I would gladly recommend either. On that note I would avoid cheap used cars, as I have seen abused Cruze's with all kinds of costly issues, leaky heads, bad PCV, turbo issues and dead catalytic converters. Avoid those, best one's are sold in new car dealerships from trade-in deals, bad one's go to auction to be sold on internet or in shady 'great deal' dealers. Update: Shortly after writing review, the 1.4 LTZ started leaking oil, once engine was open, almost $3k of repairs were required to failed parts with trade in @$5k… needless to say, now it is replaced by 2021 Equinox. The 1.8 LS on other hand, needed tires @75k (yes, Firestones lasted 75k, not originally planned 65k) and replaced transmission fluid, at 82k it had A/C fail (new compressor and TSB done, beware it is pricey!!! @$1200) and typical issues started with vacuum, new valve cover w/PCV installed, throttle body cleaned and resealed, faulty battery cable replaced (TSB) and new EVAP purge valve (3rd one!!!) with gas cap installed. @90k PM was done (new timing belt with pulleys, water pump, serpentine belt and routine 7500mi oil change ($1200 again). That concludes the maintenance on the car. Expenses added over the last 20k miles to be around $6k. Yes I traded the 1.4 LTZ for less than $3k in repair bills, but 1.8 LS did cost in unexpected bills only $1500 for the A/C and PCV issues, all other was expected PM investment - 90k PM, tires (Hankook this time), transmission flush. Right now using it daily as a commuter to work, I get great gas mileage, can trust it to go distance and keeping it to see how far it will go. 100k update: 2 minor issues came up, transmission became jerky (or was it transmission???) and 'tighten the gas cap'... well... what was perceived as tranny, was ignition coil ($80 and 10 min work; I bet ton of higher mileage complaints get misdiagnosed here, unfortunate bad diagnostic system to detect misfire in Chevy's), now it's super smooth again and low end power is back; gas cap warning, was a poor seal on EVAP valve... 110k update: beyond regular oil changes, thermostat heater failed, which brought attention to the housing... new thermostat, metal housing seals and throttle body hose, did cost about $160 in parts and about of 2 hours of work...

Beautiful
It's a great car and so far reliable
EcoTec nightmare
Disastrous engine failures as early as 60k miles. Only reliable engine is their Italian designed TURBO DIESEL under license good for 500,000 miles before rings need replacement
I love this car
Honestly this vehicle saved my life I fell asleep and went off the road and and flipped my car 3 times and it held up and I’m so thankful that I had this car when it happened.

Worst Car ever!
I always take care of my cars, but this one by far has been the worst one I've ever had. Coolant issues, oil leak issues, wheel issues, you name it. And the one year that I have had this car I've spent close to almost $10,000 in fixing it. never again

Great car...when it is not in the shop
We bought a new 2014 Chevy Cruze with the 1.4L Turbo engine in late 2013. It now has 67,000 miles on it, and when it is working well, it is a great car. However, it has had a lot go wrong, and every time something goes wrong, it is a huge bill, because it is seemingly designed to be very difficult to work on. This car has always had oil changes when due. It has not been a neglected car, but has been in the shop more than any car I've ever had. In just the Summer months of 2023, the ignition coil pack failed (again; original failed awhile back), the thermostat failed, the coolant outlet failed, the main engine wiring harness shorted and had to be replaced at great expense, the turbo failed, the oil pan gasket failed (and it is a ridiculous cost to fix this; not like your typical oil pan gasket on older cars), and now the timing chain needs to be replaced. This is in addition to some major repairs in other recent years. We are done with Chevy. Never again. It's too bad. This really is a nice car to drive, but it seems it is just a ticking time bomb, and every time something goes wrong, it's another thousand or two thousand dollars. Reliability is just terrible. If you're thinking of buying one of these (unless it's mine), run...find something else. Ultimately we had it fixed and sold it before there was another bill we'd be responsible for and bought a different brand. I'm sorry to say it, but I will never buy a Chevrolet again.

Nothing But Issues :(
I bought my 2014 Chevy Cruze in December 2022, it’s now January of 2024 and the car has been nothing but problems. The first fews months, it operated as expected, drove smoothly, no dash lights. But, for the last few months after it hit 170k, I’ve had every dash light there is pop up. Constant issues with coolant leaking, and the pan gasket has now blown. Censors upon censors have been going bad. I don’t expect a car to run the best after 150j unless it’s a Toyota. But, I expected it to at least last to 200k before blowing up.

Engine blew at 72K Miles
The 2014 Chevy Cruze is a beautiful car but it really is a high maintenance vehicle. It's a very small car. My engine blew at 72K miles. It blew due to an oil leak. Put a rebuilt engine into it & a month later the oil filter housing unit blew. I would not recommend this car to anyone unless you are wealthy. I put $5000 into this car since I got the rebuilt engine put in.

Great Car For The Price!
With the Cruze you get some problems, but also the cost of the actual vehicle itself is low! These are built to be affordable compact cars, I’m 6’ 3” and I daily drive a 1LT. It’s one of my favorite cars I’ve owned and I bought it with 11,000 on the clock. I’ve not had any issues with it so far regardless of how much I hear of them. It has really helped to get regular maintenance. Would definitely recommend this!

Cheap garbage
I can't even begin correct. My Cruze has had nothing but issues. The thermostat, water pump, reservoir tank, radiator fan, have all been replaced, and I'm only at 60,000 miles. It's not even ten years old, but every dealer tells me they're not able to help. Wish they would just tell me to kick rocks, be a bit more honest. I can't even trade it in because I'm SURE no dealer would take this hot garbage car. I guess one good thing is it was cheaper than most cars, but I guess we do get what we pay for. I'm getting a Honda or something more reliable next time, and I know I can probably get more for scrap than a trade in. I know Chevy used to be good, but clearly they're going the way of Gibson: utter lack of care to detail and making a quality product but relying on the name to keep them somehow in business. Absolutely will NEVER buy another Chevy

White lighting
I purchased new a lt1 with the technology, convience package, and sunroof. I was originally looking at the eco model but couldn't get a sunroof and was 1500 more. It's ben a while sense I have a manual transmission. I get what the window sticker says for mileage. Three carseats will fit in the back seat. The changes I would like would be available sunroof on the eco. A place for my cell phone in the center console and more leg room for my right leg so not resting so much on the center console. All in all verry pleased with this car. I am hoping it will last as long as my 1997 oldsmobile did. Up date 2018. Verry pleased with this little car. I run cooper snow tires in the winter months on the car and this does two things. The snow tire cut my mileage down 3 to 5 mpg but it also makes it go through and handle the ice and snow awesome. September 2018 update. I had my check engine light come on and it ran rough. I took it into the dealership thay replace a spark plug that had fouled out. Other than that I haven't had any issues. March 2019 45k miles and still doing great. I dont drive it as much now. Just to work and back. Family has grown so we use my wifes 2012 gmc acadia for big trips and weekends. October 2020 has 55k miles. I just did the math and I have gotten 35 mpg over the life of the car. August 2021 now have over 62k miles, still love driving it may need to get a new battery now, the car has sat for a week due to the plan-demic and has needed a jump to start. I still enjoy driving the car and now that sedans are hardly produced I don't plan and replace it anytime soon. February 2022 I have about 65k miles on my Cruze I still love my car. the Cruze is cheep to maintain and operate. February 2023 now have 75k miles on the car. Never did replace the battery just but a charger on it and no problem any more. I did replace a wheel baring that started to howl. Still a great car, and that’s good because no manufacturer makes a sedan I’d be interested in.

Turbocharger Plagued
The turbocharger has been the single most often point of failure. We bought the 2014 Cruze new in January 2014. Labor Day weekend 2016, it had its first turbocharger failure shortly after leaving Lexington, SC to Anniston, AL. Counting the factory installed turbocharger, the Cruze is on its fourth turbocharger. The problems remind me of the 1980 Citation.

Never ending repairs
If this vehicle could stay functional, I’d give it a lot more stars. So far I’ve had issues with the turbo, other emissions issues, issues with coolant leaks on multiple places, broken automatic window (the window literally fell into the car door), and the bills just kept adding up. Finally had enough and sold it at only 60 thousand miles! Damn shame too, because I loved the size and interior for this car.

HORRIBLE!!!!
I bought this car in 2018 and it has been nothing but TROUBLE! Run, FAST before you can't!!! I have had to replace the turbo which was not a cheap fix. Now having problems with the radio cutting off randomly, throwing the traction control light and ABS light. Will be trading it soon. Also DEFINITELY NOT carseat friendly!!! Whoever designed this did not want car seats in this car!!!

2014 Cruze caught fire not running in driveway
My car gave me no problems for a whole year , couldn’t have asked for a more dependable car but on 2/04/2022 it caught on fire at 5 am in the driveway as I was getting ready for work. It was not running and had not been driven in over 8 hours. Chevrolet said there were no recalls for the make and model. Insurance said no coverage on engine fire as I only had liability coverage since it was paid for so I just had to take a loss. My home was within minutes of catching fire Thankfully the fire dept was speedy. This makes no sense to me and Chevrolet doesn’t seem to think it is a safety issue so beware of this vehicle
COOLANT LEAK = ELECTRICAL ISSUES!!!
2014 cruze with less than 60k miles on it. Went through 2 junk electronic thermostats. Had a very small leak (unknown) which crept through the wiring harness into the fuse box, ecu, O2 sensors, and the very stupid control module on the back of the intake manifold that cannot be bought separate. The bill to fix was outrageous on a car that was barely worth the cost to fix... Spent nearly the amount to fix it as it was purchase for a few years prior. No power, terrible ride, the worst vehicle I have ever driven (new or old) and I drove some pretty questionable vehicles. Chevy is such a disappointment. oh, and who markets a car name CRUZE without cruise control as a standard option? jeeezzz

reliable and enjoyable
Got mine new in November 2013 and I love it, never let me down and the milage even in the city averaged mid 30s. I also managed low to mid 50s on longer trips. The only downside i've experienced has been low pep starting from a dead stop.

Blown engine, sensor hell, two DEF tanks
Don't buy. My car has 15k miles and I'm in arbitration with GM because it's been to the dealership five times in six months with check engine light problems nobody can fix. UPDATE We are at 26k miles and the check engine light issue has not been resolved. We are getting ready to enter court on lemon law enforcement. Update: The car went in for more sensors, o2 and nox, three more times. I ended up on the phone with Mobil oil accidentally trying to locate oil for the car. It's recommended to take a strange 5w30 diesel blend which is really hard to find. The gentleman at Mobil told me that the viscosity of that oil is why my car is having problems. We followed his advice and put it a blend of 5w40 and 5w30. By magic, the car is fixed and the check engine light has been off for the past 15K miles. Update: We still have this car and it’s still having issues with the sensors. There’s a second recall out for it. I’m waiting to fix it until right before. Update: the engine blew up at 100, 054 miles. Not under warranty. The sensors have never been fixed. The car has had two exhaust fluid tank replacements. I was not able to get rid of the car under lemon law because they kept fixing it and Illinois is a tough state. This car has been one of the worst things to ever come into my life. Just paid off this POS as it sits in the driveway. Soon I can junk it and put both of us out of our misery.

Dont buy
I've had 3-4 water pumps. Had to replace my motor around 153,000 miles about $6,900. And now ac compressor trying to go out at 153,754 miles and the replacement is $1,256. Oil change was done regularly. But it's great on gas. Just get your transmission fluid change. I really like my car but its getting expensive to fix
A Diesel costs much more to maintain
The main headache has been the diesel emissions fluid system. I've had two major repairs on this system. Specialized parts and the car being down for three to four days. It also takes expensive oil and trans fluid. The trans is also story by itself. GM considers it a sealed unit for life and stocks no parts for it. I only found one dealer in a city with five that would change the fliud. These are money pits, better unloaded on some unsuspecting person. I would also avoid any new diesel GM has to offer

Electrical Nightmare
Out of 3 years and going from 70k miles to 130k miles in that time it was good for about 110k. To start off with the spark plug boots melting into the motor it made it difficult to replace. the endless amounts of coolant leaks, manifold gasket going bad leaking oil, electrical problems from hell and standing water in the engine bay, interior and trunk. On top of all that the parts are very hard to find unless you go straight to the dealer and they are expensive.

Losing sleep, what did I do?!
I just bought a 2014 Chevy Cruze LT last night from a licensed wholesale guy. It has 109,000 miles and looked and felt like a nice little car to teach my 15 and 16 year old kids to drive. We spent a lot of time checking it out and scanning for codes using the little meter. It drive well. The engine seemed a bit noisy with ticking but I was reassured it had something to do with fuel injection. After we decided to purchase it, I drove it over an hour and the ticking sounds seems to be louder and more obnoxious. We parked in a parking lot checking out some of the features and it was dark, right before turning off the ignition I noticed the lights dim. I’ve now been reading reviews like crazy, losing sleep over it being described as a “death trap” and many people experiencing total loss of power while driving on freeways etc. We live off a 70 MPH freeway. Having mechanical issues from the get go and reading everyone’s horror stories is making me feel really sick right now. I guess I’m stuck paying the “Stupid Tax” and will be out a little bit of money but I’m getting rid of this car ASAP and NOT letting my kids drive it. Super upsetting.
Diesel Exhaust DPF issues
This '14' Cruze Diesel was purchased new in Feb. 2014, all highway miles, today it has 81,000 miles on it and has had the exhaust reburned 7 x's, manually by the garage, not once did the car display any reburn in process or do not stop until the reburn is completed, no messages (the reburn should be automatic). The dealer could not find anything wrong. it was covered under warranty on two of the reburns, the rest came out my pocket at $140.00 each, It has been to 3 different garages and each mechanic believes the car has never done a reburn on its own. The engineers have some work to do with respect to the exhaust DPF . As for gas mileage, ave. 43 GPM tank to tank, fuel filters cost $120.00 each, 2 installed so far, oil filters are $25.00, and oil is 8.00 quart, (low ash formula) all this plus labor, this is not the car to have if you do short runs of only drive 20 miles to work. it will not get hot enough to get good mileage. This extras cost makes the gas version a better choice. Update: the car has 128,000 on it . At 110,000 miles Chevy updated the software and it has not had an issue with the exhaust reburn, all is good , The ave. gas milage is 43 mpg, if you drive around 55 mph on the highways it will push 50 mpg. I will mention another item that I think is great, it still has the original brakes and rotors and they are not warped or worn out , my other cars warp at 36,000 and need to be replaced, I'm impressed

Awful Experience
My 2014 Chevy Cruze had its 5th Turbo replaced just this past December. It unfortunately never drive the same after the first replacement where the Dealership did not put the Turbo in correctly and I lost every bit of a brand new oil change going down the road. Loved the car in the beginning but nothing but issue after issue with it.

Don’t waste your time or money
2014 Chevy Cruze was my first car and I was so excited to get it. Bought it with 115,000 on it and spent over 3,000 in just two years of owning it. Was always in and out of the shop for engine light problems. Then it was supposedly fixed no light was on, so I was driving it when it damn near exploded. It started smoking really badly and all the oil spilled out of it could see a oil spill all the way down the street from where I drove. I had to get it towed and get rid of it. These cars these years have SO MANY RECALLS AND SO MANY PROBLEMS. All models from this year and years close to it has problems with the engine. It can and will develop cracks in the engine and after 120,000 miles it is not covered to get fixed for free. Cost of new engine is price of new used car. Do not disappoint yourself. This car is a LEMON!!!

5 year owner 2LT RS
I bought this car in 2015. It had been a rental. It had about 18k miles when I bought it. The first couple of months I had a couple small items fixed under warranty. One other small repair just recently about $150. Other than that, it has been a very trustworthy car with good fuel economy. I'm not completely in love with this car but it is an acceptable ride and I plan to keep it a while since it will be paid off in a couple years. Hopefully I won't have some of the issues I've ready about.

"Cruze from he11"
Bought at 62k miles. At 68k miles, replaced coolant hoses, water pump and engine. Now at 78k miles, i'm currently replacing the transmission. It is embarrassing in drive thrus because the fan is constantly running extremely loud and crackley sounding which i'm told is normal. It is the most uncomfortable thing i've ever sat in. After the 35 minute drive to work, i can barely get out of it by back hurts so bad.

1.4T PCV and coolant system pain in the you know.
Bought this 2014 LT 1.4T in the summer in Texas, at 86K miles. Once it finally got cold outside(DEC/JAN) I noticed foul burning oil smells coming from the heater vents, like toxic obnoxious overwhelming nauseating smells. This car is known for several issues and there are ways to get long fixes, but for only 86K miles it shouldn't have had those issues. Fast forward to 95K miles and have figured that as long as I keep the fan OFF while idling at a light or in traffic, the nauseating smells dont permeate the cabin. Heater can be ran during any vehicle speed without smells. Also, engine light came on and end result was the PCV valve on the valve cover. Which failed due to the infamous check valve in the intake manifold had disappeared. I found a great long term repair thanks to the guys at https://www.cruzetalk.com/. Fast forward to 110K miles, water pump failed. 120K miles, output water/coolant fitting failed. I will update so long as I have this car. Do not recommend this car.

Garbage car
I am pretty late to this review since I bought this new back in 2014. But, I regret that purchase to this day. 26,000 FOR THIS TURD! Its insane. It had a Pioneer PREMIUM sound system, and 2 months into ownership the speaker got messed up and rattled like heck all the time (never cranked it that high). Then, at 60,000 miles the turbo blew! Thankfully it was covered by warranty but that should not have happened at that mileage. Now I just got a 2020 Accord Sport which is something I can drive forever! Stay away from these!
It exceeds the expectations I had.
I drive 63 miles one way to work, flat and mostly freeway, in Kern County, CA. 41 miles per gallon average overall at 35000 miles in 11 months. The car gets over 50 mpg on flat freeway at 70 mph. If you drop to 55 mph, you can exceed 60 mpg. The car has been perfect to this date. Fantastic power in acceleration; can really move to pass or to accelerate to freeway speed. I have driven it on I 5 over the Grapevine several time, it moves with the air conditioner on high with no problems and holds speed on cruise control going up hill on the Grapevine without any problems. Great looking car. An easy parking car. Only problem. my daughter broke the passenger side vanity mirror cover, otherwise a car that met all of my expectations, especially for fuel mileage since I am putting on about 40 k a year. Update at 92000 miles; the car continues to get great mileage- 46.7 mpg on a 2200 mile round trip to Boulder Co. Also, still great power for passing or coming on to a freeway. At near 92750 miles had a very light coolant leak. Dealership said it was the water pump, covered under the extended warranty. However, for 28 days they could not get a replacement water pump. 28 days!!! GM has to spare up for simple things like a water pump. What would have happened if the water pump went out on a trip? Wait for a month for car repair? Other than that, the car still runs reliably, now at 97000+ miles. Update at 100,000 miles: a programmed message comes on to change the timing chain. It is a belt, not a chain. I was surprised because I had no prior inkling this was going to occur. I called the local Chevrolet dealer and asked for a price estimate; $4500!. I think they gave me a phony estimate, because this belt is external to the engine. I haven't changed it yet, but I will do the work myself. The car is still running great; great power, mileage in the 46 mpg range on the highway. Update 130,000 miles. The car continues to perform well, both in power and mileage. For a 6 year old car, at this point, it has performed very well.

I hate this car
I got a 2014 Cruze brand new. I always maintained the car and it was typically used for me commuting back and forth from college (back country roads, no city miles). First, the material of the oil cap is ridiculous and broke off into the oil reservoir when trying to service so don’t even attempt changing your own oil. At 100,000 miles the entire engine started failing. Left me stranded 3 times, after the 2nd time I got the engine rebuilt almost entirely and here I am, almost 4 months later with a blown head gasket. Even my family mechanic who we’ve used for over 20 years has told me to get rid of this car because they don’t even want to see it anymore. Once they saw someone else with my car pull in they really wanted to turn them away. I wouldn’t wish this car on my worst enemy and the worst part is that I still owe at least 3k. I don’t even feel comfortable selling this car to anyone so I’m truly at a loss.
You will badly regret it
This is a company car which I am mandated to drive via my position. If I had a choice I would dump this thing in the deep blue sea. The seating is terribly uncomfortable and lacks any scrupulous ergonomic measures. The car is powered by a weak 4 cylinder, 1.4L engine that sounds like a lawn mower. I dread having to get in and out of this car every morning. The doors are heavy and do not have a rest fulcrum which allows users to get in and out comfortably without the heavy door slamming into your leg. The aesthetics are ok, mainly the interior and dashboard are the only redeeming qualities in this bucket of bolts. It lacks any unique beauty or style. MPG is a solid 30.

Not a Lot of Soul, But a Lot of Heart
The title best describes the Cruze: it’s a fun and comfortable sedan in the shell of a drab econobox. The Cruze overall isn’t a Mercedes not is it a Focus ST, but it’s the best for the price point on the used market. Being part of the “Scion demographic” meaning young and sport-minded: The thing takes corners great until the body lean gets unbearable and it keeps up with most unsporty vehicles until third gear makes its move. Also the aftermarket is kinda lax for the Cruze, especially the 1.8L engine. I beat on my car like no tomorrow, full throttle everywhere and I’m not afraid to take it anywhere. I have yet to experience any major repairs let alone a service bill that has a comma on it. The 1.8L I4 has been pretty reliable over the almost 100,000 hard miles I’ve put on it. Most repairs were non-abuse areas like the infotainment module or the cv boot. The most expensive being the coolant system after a valve leakage at a cost of around $600. The paint durability would be my only complaint. It’s no Toyota on reliability, but it won’t leave you stranded. It hasn’t for me in the last 3-1/2 years. It will leave you toasted in the winter with the heater and ice cold in the summer though!

Love this car
This car is great on gas, nice features, they have auto start packages but the one I have unfortunately does not have that feature. Car is nice small but can hold a family of 4 with 2 car seats. Also with it played music via Bluetooth but this one does not have the my link touch screen and only plays audio through adapter

Freeway Flyer
Bought car new in San Diego. Used the car to commute from Naval Base to Woodland Hills in West San Fernando Valley on Saturdays to take care of my aging father. It is a turbo diesel, gets amazing mileage and is very quick and nimble. I am totally satisfied with the car. Great commuter. It is a 5 star in this class of car.

Great if you buy new not so great if its preowned
Got mine with about 130,000 miles on the clock and its just a money pit. I'll admit compared to other compacts it's got character but that's about it , the engine is giving out; oil leaks timing chain issues and more . The interior like i said is amazing but all in all its not worth it i dont know why chevy would make this.
Last Chevy I will ever buy
This car is complete junk. Gas gauge stopped working around 30k. Numerous electrical issues since day one. A prime example is something keeps running after you turn the ignition off (high pitched whine- and not a fan) and you need to flip the ignition on and off a few times to get it to stop. Coolant leaks, sensors keep dying, and now small but critical parts keep failing with around 80k. I have an old 2003 Chrysler minivan with 150,000 miles that's 1000 times more reliable. I used to love the old Chevy Cavaliers since they were reliable, cheap, and easy to repair. I thought maybe Chevy had built this new Cruze to replace the Cavalier. This Cruze is absolute garbage and I highly doubt it will make it to 100,000 miles without major $$ repairs.

UPDATE:Gone and Couldn’t Wait to See It Go !!
UPDATE: 9/14/2019 This Car is Long Gone. Went to the repair shop, it was there for 2 weeks. Supposedly everything was fixed. Get it back. Leave for work, breaks down a mile from the house. DONE WITH IT !!! Run far, far away from purchasing a diesel! Update: 7/2018. Traded. Check engine light ON again. No one knows what the codes mean. So done with this car. Has shut down twice while driving to work. Update: 3/2018. This car has been in recall 4 times. In the shop over 7 times for check engine light issues. Last time some sort of heater burned out in the diesel tank. In the shop 5 days for that repair. Still regret this purchase and it was a total rip off finance wise. It all sounds good on paper until you get the payments. Did a lot of research on the 2014 turbo diesel. Purchased the car in April 2105. With less than 4000 miles on it, the check engine light comes on. To the dealer we go and 6 hrs later, they can't figure out the problem. The mechanics couldn't figure out the error code. Supposedly they had to call tech support and reset the electronics on the car. Now, the gas info doesn't read correctly. And it's still not fixed. A full tank read out tells me I can get 400 miles to a tank of diesel. I have managed to get over 50 miles to a gallon and it's a 15.6 gallon tank. The seats are low to the floor. The driver seat is power and will rise up but no lumbar support. Long drives get uncomfortable. We bought this vehicle because of the MPG and we travel often. The trunk space is so-so. It will hold 2 large suitcases and some smaller bags. The interior could be better. The sunvisors do not go far enough over to the middle to block out the sun. It does have rattles that you can hear and can't find. The stereo system sucks. It has a very "tinny" sound. I have tried adjusting it manually and per music style and it still sounds bad. The back up camera is handy. It beeps while backing up and if anything is coming from either side of the vehicle. The outside mirrors have a car icon that flashes to let you know there is a vehicle in your blind spot. It does have road noise and the car sits low to the ground. Hitting bumps and dodging potholes can be rough. UPDATE: 3/2016. This vehicle has been serviced a total of 3 times. The check engine light has been on 4 times, serviced for 3. Driving home, the car dies down to almost zero power. Warning light states the car will be shutting down due to reduced power. Thank goodness we were able to coast down hill to make it home. Called the dealer who referred us to the Chevrolet Roadside assistance. We had to find a wrecker service that would haul the car to the dealer. Due to the fact that the original dealer ( that is located 40 miles away) couldn't be more helpful , we changed to our local Chevy dealership. They were able to pinpoint the problem, fuel sensors needed replaced. Car is in then shop for 5 days. Parts have to be ordered. I am still not impressed with this vehicle. Car doesn't have 10,000 miles on it and it's been in for repair 3 times. #4 will result in me being a very unhappy customer and the dealership will be getting this car back. Unless Chevrolet has made some great upgrades for the 2015-16 models, I would steer clear of the diesel model of the Cruze. Mileage hasn't been the same since the whole system was reset. UPDATE: 9/2016. Ready to trade this car. Factory tinted windows are no help in our 100 degree temps in the summer. Takes forever for the air conditioner to cool the car. Paint isn't as durable as my older vehicle. Even after doing research before purchasing this car, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Update: 3/12/2017 Regret buying this car. 2 more times dealing with check engine light. Some sort of emissions issue. Car is very uncomfortable on long trips. Had the front emblem replaced, it looked like it had been in the car for years. Right visor mirror snapped off. I flipped it up and it snapped off. There have been 2 recalls, both dealing with the diesel system. Unless they have made some great improvements, walk away from buying this car.

Do not put the pedal to the metal!
This car has been great for me. I have had it since 2014 and drove it around like it was my '96 Volvo 850. Big mistake! The water pump and turbo failed. Most likely the turbo failed because of the water pump (which is a common problem on this vehicle). Other notable problems to this vehicle are the PCV Valve and the negative battery cable. I had all 4 of those problems in my car. Luckily they were all covered under warranty, unfortunately I had to deal with other problems most likely because of things like failed water pump (overheated engine). But the car is running strong 100,800 miles. Sadly, I don't like to accelerate above 3500-4000 rpm. Sorry everyone around me. The last time I accelerated any faster I heard the turbo go out. Anyways, it's a nice car if you have a short commute, live in a patient city, or run small errands. It's comfortable on the highway, but I would not like to drive this thing around in areas where quick acceleration is a must. Nope. That's probably why they aptly named it the "Cruze" (cruise). Well hopefully it can get me another 100,000 miles on this original engine. Then I can upgrade the review to 4 stars. It's 3 stars where it stands. 3.5 stars really becase Replacement parts are cheap if you are a DIY guy or gal because it's 2020.
