It makes sense to me
I was out shopping today for a car to replace my 2009 Mercedes Benz SL550. I've driven sports cars all my life. I like the style, the handling, the thrills. I love my SL but I can only drive it 2/3 of the year because I live on the side of a mountain and there is snow. In the summer, I love to take it on road trips, but luggage space is always an issue and my wife hates highway driving in it. "Slow down!" "Don't pass that truck!" "We're too low to the road!" "Blah blah blah". I know you've heard it too. Every review I read about the X6 whines on about how impractical it is, how it has no purpose, no focus. They just don't get it, do they? ...continued
Love my new BMW!
I love this car more than my X-5. I didn't need the wagon but wanted the size of the car. It is a joy to drive.

Great all round vehicle.
The list of things I like about this SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) is long. The styling is coupe like but has 4 doors. The hatch is endlessly useful, as are the back seats that fold down flat. My X6 is in Midnight Blue with the Oyster color interior. It also has the "M" appearance package with wide 315 tires on the rear. BMW was highly criticized when the X6 was released by reviewers saying it wasn't good at anything and it's looks were hideous. Well nearly every luxury automaker has copied its profile which makes it not look its age. Being a musician I can easily load a ton of gear including: large keyboard, stand, music stand, 2 stage light stands, stage lights, bags of cords, bench and more. I live in a climate with 4 distinct seasons. I don't need to change to winter tires because the X drive has always pulled through. On the highway I average 28 miles to the gallon (Imperial gallon). City is around 19. For me it's my everything vehicle for all seasons.

Nothing compares!!
If you've got issues with getting IN to vehicles then perhaps this isn't for you. I'm 5'3 120 pounds and THIS is my car. I love EVERYTHING about it for ME, mom of 1 child, with a very busy schedule. Now that I have 2 husky's I was searching for a vehicle that met the "dog mom" criteria and I think I'm just going to figure out a way to protect the leather and create a way for air to circulate to the WAY back for the dogs. Before being dead set on THIS one, I test drove about 10 other vehicles... this beautiful ride GOES, handles curves well and is VERY comfortable. Long trips? Not a problem, just turn on the driver seat massager and you're good to go!!

Begs to be Driven
We purchased the 2011 X6, loaded with every option available. This is my first BMW, but won't be the last. The car begs to be driven, and is a blast to drive. The turbo V6 has all the power you'll ever need, especially with the 8 speed transmission. The torque is unreal, but there is slight turbo lag from a dead stop rapid acceleration. The interior is classy, refined, and very comfortable on long drives. Around town in every day driving it gets about 17 mpg. On the high way though, on a recent 250 mile trip we averaged about 26 mpg (not bad for a big vehicle and AWD). The premium sound system is a must have, unbelievable sound.
