Used 2018 BMW 3 Series 340i xDrive 4dr Sedan AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A) Consumer Reviews
Wonderful in summer, less so in winter
Update after three years - In my 40-odd years of driving I think this must be one of the best cars for summer driving I have ever come across. The 340i xDrive is stink fast (I have the speeding tickets to prove it) and handles gorgeously. If you want a city driver for day to day errands it will happily burble along. If you want to floor it, the car will go like a rocket ship. But the challenge is, it’s pretty light, and that doesn’t really work in a place with plenty of snow. It is also low off the ground which means you can get stuck in drifts. So very reluctantly I will be handing it back when the lease runs out so I can look for something bigger. This is a gorgeous car, an amazing vehicle to drive; the engine growl is throughly addictive and I sometimes drive around slowly with the windows down just to listen to the noise, a big smile plastered on my face. The 340i takes off like a rocket ship and yet is also perfectly suited for longer distance drives. The seats are the most comfortable of any BMW I've driven (this is my family's fifth) and the new version of the iDrive is intuitive and quick. I sprang for the upgraded Harman and Kardon sound system and can report the quality is superb. My one reservation is the braking system, which sadly is not great. I did not spring for the upgraded brakes and that in hindsight was a mistake, since if you're trying to slow down quickly it can be a battle.

Last of their kind
Have read the reviews about the outbound 3 series. Waited for the new model until learned it wouldn’t be offered in manual. Test drove 340i xdrive with m sport line. Acceleration is much more than adequate. Handling is close to spot on - with just a bit of “float” in steering feel. Cockpit position is ideal. At 6’3”, I am more than comfortable. This is a driving car that connects me to the act of driving.

Manual transmission+track handling package ROCKS.
With a six-speed, all-wheel drive and ultra-high-performance (UHP) all-season non-runflat tires this car is an awesome 4 season sports sedan that's more than $20k cheaper than an M3 (which is two wheel drive). The 340 has plenty of animal nature for street driving, with superb handling and 0-60 in 4.6. I’ve had one M3 and I’ve driven the recent generation on a track, so I do understand the difference; right now I need a less spendy four-season car and it’s a priority for me to keep my license 😬 This car is a hoot to drive on a fun road. Stay away from run-flat tires for better handling and a more compliant ride. If you like sport driving get the track handling package. Changing from Stability Control to Traction Control, chosen by a simple switch, makes it into an incredible snow car. People in two country homes with steep driveways told me, after snowstorms, "You should park down below, you'll never make it up the driveway." Both times I just drove right up. I had to special order the car to get a manual, which makes me worried about manuals continuing to come to the US, but it was worth the wait because it let me get the track package, LED lights and almost everything else. I highly recommend my dealer, Francine at Orange County BMW in Harriman, New York. This is my second car from her, I'm not an easy customer and she is incredibly supportive. Update after 18 months and 20,000 miles Still love the car. The main thing I have to add is I recently got a software update. Make sure you do that! Nowadays everything is in software; steering feel, suspension settings, throttle response... not just making bluetooth more reliable (which it needed, because as I upgraded my iOS and even got a newer phone Bluetooth disconnected more often, rather than less). The most evident change with the software update is the suspension has less compression damping, especially in Comfort mode, which means the ride is more compliant and less harsh, while still feeling firmly planted on the road. Steering seems to be a little lighter, which I prefer. On the whole, it's a terrific improvement. I realize that on bumpy twisties I had been making excuses for the car: "Of course you have to expect some harshness with the track handling package..." and no, it was just tuned too harsh, it's soooo much better now. I had similar marked improvements with a software update to an X3 about 6 years ago. Whatever BMW you have, make sure and ask for a software update when it's a year old!
