I am looking to finally buy my first Porsche 911. I am trying to decide on either a 2002/2003 911 Turbo or a 2005/2006 911 C4S. Would like good advice from Porsche owners - and a reason why as well. Many Thanks !!
Hello fellow Porsche experts and lovers. I am new to Porsche and new in USA so I need urgent detailed information about maintenance fees please. I am planing to finally get my first Porsche and I just came to live to Miami so I would really appreciate advice and feedback from you dear experts about the average annual maintenance fees and normal repairs so I can inlcude it on my yearly ... It has a been a while since I last posted. In any case, for all you current and future Porsche owners. I have five vehicles, three of which are Porsche's. A 996 2002 C4 Conv, 2006 Cayenne Turbo and a 2007 997S Conv. My 996 has had past issues with oil leaks, not much in volume but a concern nevertheless especially because of RMS issues. About a year and a half ... Read More
There's a certain degree of mystery and natural fascination with the GT-R because it's like a dream you can never quite remember. It's there, and then gone again leaving hints of the memory behind to piece together. The idea of a car becoming a methphor representing that mystery, surprise and dominance is the fun part. That is what sets the GT-R apart from the competition and makes it more than just ... Read More
have followed this discussion at great length and I am amazed at how the Nissan fans are so pumped up on this new, and I may add, good car they have produced. However, to state that the GTR is a better car than a Porsche is fanciful thinking. Furthermore, I believe this to be wishful thinking coming from people that can't actually own a Porsche or don't appreciate the history and ... Read More
With all due respect to fedlawman, I think he is being excessively harsh on the 996. While it is true that many long time "enthusiasts" prefer the 993 to the 996, a big part of the resale value equation is supply and demand. I don't have the actual production numbers handy, but at the time they introduced the 996, Porsche also considerably ramped up production and export of the 911 to ... Read More
BH, In case you are still looking... Each 911 generation has its own personality and all provide a great driving experience. The 996 although a “water cooler”, is more comfortable and slightly bigger than the preceding generation. I would stay away from 99-2001 MY, Porsche had some difficulties with rear main seal leaks, an expensive repair if out of warranty! For 2002 and up the 996 was revised with a new ... Read More
Greetings: I have sold my 2002 M3 convertible and my 2003 530i sedan so that the wife could get a Volvo XC-90 V8 for hauling around the kids and dogs...I am left with a mint 2000 Toyota Landcruiser and a void in my heart for a nice toy car... I am looking into the merits of a late model 1999-2003 911 Cabriolet (I believe the "version" is called the 996 in ... Read More
I am considering my first Porsche, a 2002 911 Cabriolet. I drove it while vacationing in AZ last week. I know little about the cars, but am learning quickly. The car seems in excellent condition and was acquired at auction on the East Coast by the present dealer in used cars. It has the 18" wheels that seem to be a point of contention among owners due to vibration. I believe ... Read More
(1) "12,900 miles and almost brand new". That's more than enough miles to be broken in, but no guarantee that it was broken in properly. Do you have all of the service records and mileage logs? One thing I'd be concerned about is whether it has sat for extended periods of time (2+ months) without being driven. According to my dealer, this is another source of the infamous "rear main seal" ... Read More
hello, i have been looking for a porsche i can afford and think i may have found her. i have seen a 2002 911 Carrera in Speed Yellow with lots of goodies. Bose, full leather, PSM, etc etc. It only has 12,900 miles on it. They are asking $48,000 even. I thought wow...48 grand is not the end of the world, but before i sheel out that kind of money, I ... While a 911 has a list of 71K, no one in their right mind would want one that way for that kind of money. At 71K you don't get leather, power seats, NAV, a rear wiper---this must be a joke, right?, There are a lot of reasons to talk yourself out of a Porsche. I talked myself out of a Boxster S in 2002 in favor of a $25k less expensive ... Read More
I was told the same 3-6 month delay for a paint to sample order on a 911S. I've elected to go for the Turbo and will likely go with slate grey which is a standard color, no delay. I've been to the Porsche factory and they produce cars in batches of standard colors, so when you do a paint to sample order, you get thrown into a "catch as catch can" ... Read More
Sport Shifter: The standard 911 shifter is not bad, but they are definitely longer throws than my former 2002 Honda S2000, which arguably had the best gearbox (not clutch) in the business. So I've opted for the sport shifter in the 2006 911 I have on order. Sport Exhaust: Again, because it's tied to the sport chrono on my car, it's impossible to tell if the sport exhaust adds any power/performance. ... Read More
I read the other reply to your question and my opinion is different from that of the Honda S2000 owner. I've owned two Miatas. One was an original 1990 (1600cc engine)and the other was a 2001 (1800cc engine) special edition. I autocrossed both these cars. The Miata is an awesome handing car, with 11 straight national championships in autocross. You will find little evidence of cowl shake, which is present in ... Read More
I'm Back. After a 4.5 year hiatus from the great pleasure of owning a 911 Cabriolet, today I picked up a new Arctic Silver 997 C4 Cab from Danbury Porsche in CT. It feels like all is right with the world again. In 2001, I traded in my 1999 996 Cab for an ML500 when we had our daughter. Lived in the city, so we only needed one car. Last year, ... Read More
I would agree with points made by Don and bsumner - as might be expected from someone who bought a new 997 himself. However, in the spirit of fairness, I happen to know someone who has a 2001 911 Turbo Coupe with 11,000 miles that he will be selling to get a 997 Turbo, when they are available. He is a longtime Porsche enthusiast - still owns a 356 - and ... Read More
Hello everyone, this is a great Porsche forum! I live in Toronto and I have decided to fulfill one of my childhood dreams and buy my first Porsche 911. I am looking at a couple 2002 Carrera cabriolets with about 44k kms (about 28k miles) since these are in my comfortable price range. Both are pre-owned certified from local Porsche dealerships. The cars: Porsche #1: 2002 carrera C2 Artic silver/black interior ... Read More
The private party retail value of the car you describe, assuming it really is in "outstanding" condition and well equiped with power memory seats, navigation, uprgraded stereo, etc. is around $48,000, according to Edmunds. So I would describe the asking price as a "fair" deal, but certainly not a great deal. And by no means does it sound too good to be true. Don't forget, in the "real" world, $48,000 for ... Read More
First, in the event I gave the wrong impression, I enjoy this discussion and I would not take anything personally - as I hope you wouldn't. Regarding "genetic material" in the S2000 and Boxster, I'm not as convinced as you. The S2000 is a ground up roadster that shares almost nothing in common with other Honda products, as best I can tell. Not that that is good or bad, it's just ... Read More
1) Fiberglass weighs less than metals and is more resistant to dents. 2) Not to be rude, but do you have facts to support your assumption that Ferrari and Porsche owners won't consider the 2006 Corvette Z06? 3) Has no record in international racing? The Corvette doesn't have the racing heritage of a 911, but Porsche doesn't back the new 997 in racing. The following is from Corvettemuseum.com "[On July 10th, ... Read More
