Used 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
So nice, so fun, lokks so good
This is THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. It is quick, comfortable, easily seats a family of five, and drives just as good as a Mercedes-Benz. My next car is certianly to be a VW. The warranty is excellent, my dealer has good follow up for services.
I love my car!
I bought my Jetta used. It was 3 yrs old and only had 36k on it. Right away when I got it the blinkers stopped ticking, but other than that my car has been absolutely perfect. I really wanted to get a GTI, but this was more in my price range. I thought I would be disappointed, but I couldn't be happier w/ this little car. I still love to get in it everyday and don't regret my purchase at all. Very pleased!

My Unreliable Jetta
My Jetta was extremely unreliable. I serviced it according to the manual but still had my fuel tank replaced at 0 miles before I could even pick it up. My engine was rebuilt at 60,000 miles. My power windows fell down into the door and a piece that holds the window up was replaced. Two plastic pieces kept falling out of my sunroof. The check engine light was always on and numerous O2 sensors were replaced. The final straw was when my transmission went out at 107,000 miles and the cost to replace it was $3200. I traded it in for a Mazda.
Anyone need a transmition?
22,000 miles and we are on the 3rd transmition. It has been in the shop for a total of 27 days over the past two years.
Too Many Problems!!!
I don't recommend anyone to buy this car.The first week I had the car, my window fell!!! I've been back for that same problem 4 more times since. I've also had a brake sensor malfunction, so I couldn't get my car off of park and had to get it towed to the dealership. I've had to replace the airconditioning module and fan and now have to replace the control module for the car. The inside is also peeling, the armrest broke and the seats collect fuzz like crazy. It's not worth it!! Save yourself the trouble. A 2001 model is still rather new to be having all these freaken problems.
WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT CAR GREAT POWER NO PROBLEMS,I HAVE THE TOP OF THE LINE AND WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT ANY OTHER CAR.
What's happened to VW?
The 1.8Turbo is a blast to drive, but it has been a horror to own. I've had major mechanical issues (ie engine mounts falling off) that many feel should have been warranty items. Unfortunately, VW customer service was not among this group. Even though I've been a VW owner for 12 years, and my family has been loyal to the brand for over 25 years, I'm going to be selling asap to escape this dismal reliability and customer service.

Fun but unreliable
I'm at 117,000 miles and and getting ready to trade in for a Honda. The MIL is on right now because of a bad coolant sensor, a bad 02 sensor and a bad catalytic converter. The heater core also has a hole in it, so the car smells like anti-freeze if I turn the heat on. I hope the dealer doesn't take it for a drive before proposing a trade in value. I figure I've put about $10k into the car on repairs over the years, with only about $2k being normal scheduled maintenance. That includes a few new rims and tires because it does not handle pot holes too well! It is fun to drive though, so I will miss that after the trade in.
Excellent German-Designed Car
The Jetta Turbo gas model performs well, has comfortable seating, excellent Monsoon sound system, great sports suspension, and rates the safest of any auto on the Consumer Reports/NHTSA crash tests: 5 star head on and 4 star side crash. The car has been reliable and is a poor man's BMW.
