Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsLaunching any car with a 1.6-liter engine is an exercise in futility. With barely enough power to spin its miniscule tires, the Yaris is slow to leave the line. Control feel and feedback hamper interaction with the Yaris when driving quickly.
Braking ratingGood
Braking commentsAll Toyotas stop effectively, and the Yaris is no exception. Plant your foot on the brake pedal and like the rest of the Yaris' controls it will feel a bit vague at first. But it stops the car effectively enough.
Handling ratingAverage
Handling commentsThe Yaris is likely the only car in Toyota's arsenal that will oversteer. It must be accelerating to be stable through the slalom, where radical transitions are the norm. Enter at neutral throttle or under engine braking and you'll be backward faster than you can say "spin the Yaris."
