Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsNo matter which setting I used (VSC on/off, transmission in D or L, AWD lock/unlocked) the acceleration results were effectively identical. The tachometer ramps up to near-redline by 60 mph, and holds there throughout the run. Engine drone is exaggerated under these test-track conditions, but not so in everyday driving.
Braking ratingGood
Braking commentsConsistent and mostly fade-free brakes. The pedal has just the right amount of travel, resistance and effectiveness.
Handling ratingGood
Handling commentsWith VSC switched off, the Murano circles the skid pad obediently, but eventually begins to understeer on the limit. Steering feels a little artificial in the way the effort builds, but there's still some sense of what the front tires are doing. VSC didn't intrude on the skid pad. Even with the "VDC off" light showing on the instrument panel, it intrudes during slalom testing, which becomes the limiting factor. Still, the Murano offers good yaw response and exhibits less roll than its size would suggest. In the end, it feels more capable than the electronic limits will allow in these test-track conditions.
