The 2017 McLaren 570S is the company's least expensive new model, but there's nothing about the 570S that looks or feels cheap. The 570S is the first model in the company's history to come in (or at least start) under $200,000, which puts it up against many of the high-end sports cars available from German competitors, so it has to remain fast while also being refined. Luckily for McLaren, that's definitely the case.
Behind the driver is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 that puts out 562 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. Combine that powerful mid-engine V8 with a lightweight body and sophisticated suspension and you have a car that can catapult off the line in a drag race or dart around corners on a road course, both without breaking a sweat. During Edmunds track testing, the McLaren 570S was able to go from zero to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, which is just plain astonishing from a rear-wheel-drive car. The 570S was also able to complete our quarter-mile drag strip in just 10.7 seconds at an eye-watering 129.6 miles per hour. And, according to McLaren, the 570S will reach a top speed of 204 mph. So, it clearly has the speed stuff covered.
As for refinement and comfort, the McLaren gets top marks there as well. Interior materials and build quality are excellent, with all sorts of customization options available for pretty much anyone who wants to buy a 570S. The cabin is a bit louder than some competitors, but there aren't any off-putting squeaks or rattles to distract from driving. The dashboard is laid out in true McLaren minimalist fashion, with a limited number of buttons and knobs, keeping the design and look extremely clean. This lends to the exotic feel of the car, even if the controls in the 570S are a bit difficult to learn. It wouldn't be an exclusive experience if it weren't a little bit quirky, right?
Much the same as some other McLarens, the 570S can be made, essentially to order. Custom paint, interior options and wheels are just the beginning of what the British automaker has to offer. While the 570S may not have the most modern interior tech when you compare it to rivals, it does have a relatively simple touchscreen and a limited number of buttons to convolute the driving experience. Many rivals have more modern systems as well with items such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which the McLaren does not have.
If you want an exclusive sports car experience with lots of character, the 2017 McLaren 570S can certainly provide it. And however you want yours equipped, Edmunds can help you find the perfect one.
