Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsNot much in the way of go power here. Power braking helped, but would only get a small amount of wheelspin off the line. Little power down low and gets thrashy up high. Even in Manual mode it will upshift on its own if driver tries to go to redline.
Braking commentsExtremely firm pedal with a perfect amount of travel. Significant body dive causes the tail to get light with a bit of rear wiggling. Overall, good braking for this segment. First and sixth runs were the shortest.
Handling commentsSkid pad: Did not display the grip the car showed through the slalom. Instead, it just went into a steady-state understeer mode, and the chassis wasn't that amenable to letting you use the throttle to cure it. Stability control was more aggressive at cutting the throttle than we were, but the times were identical. Slalom: The Forte is surprisingly well-mannered for an economy car, never understeering too much and never getting twitchy because of drop-throttle oversteer. Manhandling the Forte around the cones, rather than being smooth, was the best way to quick times. But it always stayed planted and secure. Steering has good weighting and quickness, but you could occasionally beat the power assist, as the system would fight you/kick back in protest when the steering pump couldn't keep up.
