Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsNo chance of wheelspin and "leisurely" would best describe the sensation. I can't tell if the Accent hits an aerodynamic wall or the gearing isn't optimal but above 65 mph is a bit of a struggle. Gear spacing seems wide for a torque-challenged vehicle.
Braking ratingExcellent
Braking commentsThese are pretty darn good brakes. There's very little ABS vibration; the pedal remains firm throughout its travel; and a change in surface doesn't seem to affect the ability of the system to adjust to it. Also, no scratchy tire noise under full ABS.
Handling ratingGood
Handling commentsOnce I discovered I could run near redline in 2nd gear, the times improved dramatically because I could maintain speed through the entire 600 feet. Otherwise in drive (with overdrive off) it couldn't maintain the required speed in 4th gear. The grip and tossability are good despite the unsophisticated steering rack (which vibrates and shudders over impacts in the road).
