Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsLaunch technique gains little here, as the SS is nearly as fast just wooding the throttle off the line as it is with small brake/throttle overlap. Manual shifting gains nothing, especially since there's no redline indicated in the tachometer (max engine speed is 6,500 rpm). Our best run came with very mild power braking to about 1,500 rpm. Sport mode seems to make no difference here.
Braking commentsPedal response isn't as immediate in everyday use as we'd expect with Brembos. Testing, though, reveals ample heat capacity for multiple back-to-back 60-0 stops. We saw no reduction in performance or pedal feel during testing.
Handling commentsSlalom: Transitional stability is good and limits are predictable, though there's probably a quicker slalom run in the car with full disabled stability control. Still, steering feel and response are solid. Skid pad: Front grip and feel are good here and -- like all good performance sedans -- the SS balances on the throttle nicely. It's easily placed and the limits are clearly communicated and exceeded.
