Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsBest launch technique is to fully engage clutch before using WOT. Then it's a matter of dipping into the pedal quickly but carefully to keep from boiling the tires -- pedaling, if you will. First gear is good to about 64 mph, so there's no shift before the magic number. Shifter is better than Z06 but we still missed 3rd gear more than once. Any car that hits 128 in the quarter is hauling the mail. Impressive.
Braking ratingExcellent
Braking commentsIt took many runs to get the CC discs up to temperature, but when they were optimized, stopping distances dropped dramatically from 105 feet to 96. This is the first time I've seen smoke from ceramic brakes, but their perfomance seemed to thrive on the heat.
Handling ratingExcellent
Handling commentsIt takes a few runs to get the feel of the ZR1 in the slalom and to learn to place it. It's very low, very wide and displaces a lot of air very close to the ground so I ran over more cones than usual. Blew a few over, too. Basically, this is a very capable car, but also very different from anything else in its realm. It desperately needs seats that hold its driver in place.
