Great PHEV just the AUX battery and 12V problems

Just like a typical BMW, great handling and when optioned well great features and tech for a 2018. LED headlights are very nice, great visibility at night. Head up display is a must have. Wireless CarPlay is another great feature. Just wish the entire screen was dedicated for CarPlay function. Comfortable seats with good lumbar support. The wireless charger is ok, but being tucked away … under the center armrest IMO not good. Not only is it designed for smaller phones, my iPhone 13 with a very slim case barely fits. It cooks your phone and I’ve had my phone shutdown due to heat. the M sport package is a nice step up in handling from base. However, the front bumper does take a beating from parking blocks and such because of the lower stance. If charged often my MPG is awesome. On my 70/30 mostly highway daily drive to work about 25 miles I get 60-70 MPG. However if charging isn’t utilized the MPG significantly drops to about 30-40. Small fuel tank, so range is typically just under 300 miles.
Aside from the great driving dynamics and great creature comforts when well optioned. Premium, M sport, etc. We’ve had the dreaded Aux & 12V battery issues. We had a 2017 that had both fail twice. First was under warranty but the 2nd time just out of warranty. Was over a couple grand to repair. So that prompted us to get into a 2018. Hoping that battery issue was limited to the 2017 it also happened to our 2018 with only 30k on the ODO. One day car was charging and I noticed a sulfur smell coming from the garage. Immediately I knew, better unplug. Been through that before and it’s dangerous for a battery to emit that. Sure enough after another visit to service for battery issues we had to replace the 2 batteries. Not cheap. At least the main big battery pack has behaved, for now. Love the car for what it is and being a PHEV it has torque! Unlike a typical hybrid that is gutless when trying to pass or go uphill.
Currently at 50k and being 7+ years old it still drives & handles awesome and no issues besides the 2 smaller batteries. I’m confident from a mechanical standpoint this car will last. However we are a bit unsure how much longer the hybrid powertrain will go. The warranty has since expired for the smaller batteries. Main battery pack warranty almost gone as well. It’s starting to feel like a gamble every passing year. What’s the saying the house eventually wins. May have to gather our winnings and find another table…🤔
