Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsRuns done with powertrain in Dynamic mode. Best run in "D." Holds gears past redline. Responds well to brake torque.
Braking ratingVery Good
Braking commentsSuperb pedal feel. Good immediacy. Consistent pedal despite longer stops.
Handling ratingGood
Handling commentsSkid pad: All handling tests done in Dynamic mode. Lots of "chasing" with stability on here. Turn it off and the Q5 has very respectable manners. Goes right where it's pointed quickly. Slalom: Heavy steering effort and stiff suspension in Dynamic mode make Q5 "feel" responsive and capable, yet its handling numbers don't end up any better than the GLK or XC60.
