As an owner of 3 Avalons with the most recent being a 2011 Limited, I will NOT be buying a 4th generation model. I have tried on at least 3 occasions to purchase a 2013 Avalon, but each test drive left me unhappier. Too cramped for me. I also still can't get past the grille, though I love the large grille on an Audi. I know Toyota designed and built for ... Read More
I'm guessing that the older folks Toyota is speaking of, while they have the disposable income and many would have purchased (or in my case keep the 2013) had it been more like the Avalons of yesteryear, they also might not have purchased in the number they need / want, simply because the cars last, and their income doesn't. Again I say, they could have simply made the LTD for folks ... Read More
Yes, you are correct, Toyota does have a younger buyer in mind. But we of the "comfort = soft ride" car buyer group feel left out after all these years. In fact, Toyota could have had us all with a softer ride option. But no, they did not do that... The new ones seem to be a great car and, yes, they are selling well compared to the prior model. I ... Try to remember that Toyota specifically altered the 2013 Avalon models to appeal to younger buyers. They made no secret of the fact that they wanted to get away from the geriatric image and demographic appeal of prior Avalons and create more of a driver's car that would attract buyers in their 40s and 50s or even younger. Also note that the sales of the 2013 models, as of November, were ... Read More
I have Michelin MXV4's, great ride, great in snow. Now, wheel balance, on or off the car, wheel alignment, 2 wheel or 4 wheel, have you moved the front wheels to the rear, all of this could make a difference. Perhaps a front disc is hanging up, or as stated, a wheel is bent, swapping them front to rear might eliminate that. Always a 4 wheel alignment, preferably balancing the wheels ... Read More
konradlv, What was the outcome of your visit to the dealer? I'm a few days in of my 2013 Avalon Hybrid and noticed this seat issue immediately. I've called Toyota and created a case number for this issue.

Nan48, I agree with your final comments about your 2011 Avalon completely. I have a 2007 with just 65K miles and it is still a great car. I was getting a musky/moldy odor coming from the vents until I learned it is caused by the A/C being in recirc mode (which is the default setting). So now I put it in fresh air mode about 10 minutes before I get home or park somewhere.

I just purchased a 2011 Avalon Limited with 9,500 miles for $25,900. The car looks new! Got the full service records from Toyota and there were no issues. It was built in Oct 2011 and sold Dec 2011, so it's almost like a 2012. The previous owner traded it in for a 2013 Avalon Ltd. Also purchased the Toyota 7 yr/100,00 miles new car warranty from Jerry Johnson for $999.
My 2013 Avalon Limited has 18" Bridgestone, you say your has 17"? My Limited Hybrid has Bridgestone Turanza EL-400 215/60-17. Everybody here hates them.

Exactly. It may be that Toyota has found a winner even though many here are leaving the brand for other makes. If sales continue at the pace set by the 2013 or improve then I guess the marketers had it right... lose a few but gain many. My wife & I (both 73) couldn't agree more about the 2013 Avalon's handling and ride...I've ridden in lumber wagons which rode better. We have a 2011 Avalon and won't be buying another until the Toyota designers wake up and realize that riding comfort is just as important to younger buyers as it is to us old folks. First, the little things... the grille is too large (but if the car is black it looks ok) for one. The windshield angle is too low for good visibility (a common problem today). Also have owned three Avalons, one of each generation. The new 2013 is designed for a changing market and a different buyer, my opinion. I don't know what the design engineers at Toyota were thinking when the they released the 2013 Avalon. I read that Toyota was focusing on a younger market, but I don't think it appeals to any particular market, except someone that wants to say they have an Avalon, instead of a Camry. I also own a 2004 Avalon XLS, and simply do not like the way the 2013 looks. The exterior ... Read More
Hey so I got the 2013 limited Avalon. Ride has been fine for me so far. I discovered something today when I called the local Toyota dealer to inquire about upgrading the disc in my 2011 Avalon. The parts manager said that the only disc available now is the 2012 version. I test drove a 2013 Avalon Touring with properly inflated Michelins with the intent of trading in my 2007 Avi Touring. I found the ride and handling similar to my 2007 but was turned off by the cramped feeling inside the 2013 compared to the 2007 and the lack of some of the features I like in my car, reclining back seat, large door pockets and other things mentioned by previous ... Glad I could help. Toyota does a number of things well...their GPS units, while not bad, are average at best, and their voice command menu is not nearly as good as many others out there. My local tire dealer didn't have much very nice to say about the Bridgestones either. Then again he is a tire dealer selling tires. Wow, this is really interesting regarding the wheel size and tires. You would think that the Toyota would go standard with Michelins instead of using the Bridgestones. I am getting more used to the firm ride and I love the seats, they are comfortable to me. I think it ... Read More

No sarcasm. I'm a Toyota fan! Have had 3 Lexus LSes, the Camry Hybrid, a Lexus Es, etc.... But the Camry Hybrid (not Avalon, mind you, and that could be the difference) was indeed, miserable from a noise, harshness, vibration & jerky standpoint. Drove it 60,000 miles, and dumped it. The normal Camry is a joy to drive...... That's my experience. The Avalon may be much better sound insulated.
I just read an owners review on CR's website where a Camry Hybrid owner said that his car rode like sh*t with the factory installed Bridgestone Turanza EL400, size P215/55R17 tires. He put on top of the line Michelin's after 500 miles and reported "HUGE improvement" In the 19th (most by far of any 2013 Toyota) CR owner's Avalon review an owner said he had the 18 inch wheels switched out ... Your reply makes me feel better about my decision. You and CR are on the same page about feeling safer in the 2013 TAH than in the 2011 TA. I think CR's statement "that most $25K sedans ride better" is a little too damming. The overall rating ... Read More

Drive them both (which I do), and you'll find, as usual, the Honda is noisier, harsher, and rides much stiffer than the Avalon. Hondas are wonderful, well built cars - but NVH has never been their strongest suit, compared with a Toyota. The Avalon will be smoother, quieter, and nicer to drive.
The Lexus E350 has smaller dimensions than the Avalon by two to three inches in all areas, front shoulder room rear shoulder and leg room. For looks and handling, many newer cars are using 18" and larger rims and these almost always give a harsher, rougher ride. Also, the lower profile tires that come on those rims don't last too long.

I'm pretty sure the new Avalon and ES are the same size now, little smaller than the 2012 Avalon, but larger than the Camry. I haven't driven either yet. I had an 03 than an 06 and yes that rear window isn't the best for seeing out of. You will get used to it. Except for front seat comfort the 05+ is a much better car than the 00-04. Its a shame Toyota destroyed the Avalon with the 2013. They were great cars.
i got a 2012 limited.2013 disappointed me.trading it in for a 2013 es in march
Have 2011 Ltd., 33,000 miles, White, great car.....bought at a better time in my life, then wife died....need to move on. This was my 2nd Avalon, 1st was 2003, put 110,00 miles worry free miles. I have decided that there are enough new options on the 2013 Ltd., that now is a good time to make the change. Have spend the past few months looking at different cars Nissan Maxima, Infinite, ... $22,000.00??? I got OVER $25,000.00 for my car in-trade? Don't mean to be disrespectful but these were your numbers quoted directly from your earlier post. Obviously, there was a miscommunication but I just wanted to make that clear. I hope no offense is taken because it was not intended. Now back to the 2013 Toyota Avalon....feed the forum.
My first impression on the 2013' front end was , "What in the world was Toyota engineers thinking"? My biggest complaint probably would be less room on the inside. (keep in mind I have not driven a 2013 model) EVERYONE who sits in the back seat of 2011 LOVES it. I have sat back there one time and I have to say, it's very roomy. For now, I'll stick to my ... you'll be a fool to think toyota wasnt aiming to be sporty with this new avalon.you cant tailor your entire selection of cars to please a certain demographic.that younger clienetele does get old also.i say fire the 25yr old who designed it.he could of easily pleased grampa and 29yr old billy with a car that didnt straight up copy a azera.the car is nice but it's more of a touched up ... test drove a xls today.i have a 2012 limited.the 2013 seats are alot more comfortable.the side body curves on the car are beautiful.the inside is the bad part.it looks more like a touched up camry.not a inch of the 2013 says luxury. defenitely more sporty with its suoer thick steering wheel and its wide gear shift.stitch is nice but the plastic throughout the car really sticks out.also not as much space ... With all those comments it is hard to believe that you aren't already having buyer's remorse with the 2013. I am glad that you are enjoying the car. It sounds to me that Yota is trying to move the Avalon away from being a Japanese Buick and more to being a solid competior to the Maxima, 300, and Hyundai Genesis. I did see one at the local Toyota dealer in a ... Read More
Tough call. I said to hell with it and bought a new 2013 instead:) Ok, really. I had a very nice Garmin with the car before my 2011 Avalon, and must admit, I often used both units. The Garmin (which I had lifetime Map updates), was as you'd expect always right on the money. More so as of late (which is why the Toyota unit has a New DVD available). Is ... Read More
Took my 2011 Avy in for 30K service and drove a new 2013 LTD. I was impressed overall with the car's handling, interior finish quality and the quietness even after taking into consideration of being new. The front end was not quite as ugly to me as in the photos and videos but it was distracting. Kinda reminded me of the front end of the old Chrysler 300 of yore before ... Read More
I have owned my 2012 Camry Hybrid for almost a year now. My wife has been waiting for the 2013 Avalon, and we drove them yesterday. The dealer is trying to locate the Avalon LTD. V6 in the color she wants for us now. The Avalon Hybrid is a fine car indeed, and fuel economy/performance will equal the Camry's outstanding results, but she likes the extra smoothness and power of the ... Read More
http://www.insideline.com/toyota/avalon-hybrid/2013/2013-toyota-avalon-hybrid-fu- ll-test.html A new hybrid that actually gets the mileage promised too. Fancy that. Good looking, elegant, quiet, dignified, admirable, athletic enough, and won't be a constant drain on the wallet. A true flagship has arrived.
I bought a new Avalon limited in 05 (06 model) which i traded for a 2011 Avalon Limited when they told me it was just redesigned and wouldnt change for 5 years typically :) I soon found out it would change for late 2012 and did some research to discover i would lose about 10k in value if i kept it thru the change. After 2 Avalon limiteds I drove the ... Read More
My local Toyota dealer just got a 2013 Avalon. I plan on taking a look this week.
