I'm a 2009 Hyundai Sonata driver who experienced the same bad tires and "pull left" affects that others on this site have reported, not to mention chronic low pressure warnings and utterly ineffective efforts on the part of two Huyndai dealers to identify or help resolved these irritating issues that had been occurring since the day I drove my new car off the lot in August 2009. Not at all happy ... Read More
We bought a 2009 Hyundai Sonata and have had the issue of the "jerk" when at low speeds recently, every time we drive. We dropped it off at a dealer late yesterday morning, and they were not even able to look at it before the end of the day. This after saying that they might charge a $115 diagnostic fee! Needless to say, we are not planning on going back to ... Read More
Been waiting all year to get the 2012 Sonata. Though I'd wait till they offered 2012 Sonata with 0% financing. That didn't happen. Got a ton of quotes but decided to go Patrick Hyundai. They were the most communicative over the last few months They had the iridescent silver blue pearl sonata marked for $22,899+tax. I had a quote for $19,937 from Lauren Hyundai and barely got them to beat it. ... Read More

No Luck.. done it a million times.. the radio is just frozen on it.. I think in someway that the XM although is seperate has something to do with the AUX button.. idk.. Any other advice?
eh.. didnt work.. any other suggestions.. no luck.. I appreciate your time!
I would first go to the XMSirius website and send a refresh signal to your radio. Make sure your radio is on when you do it. This should clear the "Loading" issue. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, call customer support and they'll do it.
Sounds more like the stereo head unit to me. It would talk to the XM receiver & most likely drives the USB port as well. Check the fuse. Pull the fuse to fully power-down the stereo, then re-insert it. FYI: The stereo should have a 3 year/36K warranty so if you're within that period take it to a dealer for servicing.
My XM RADIO just says Loading, then goes to the start screen with no info on it. It freezes there and you cant get any response from pressing buttons. ALSO, I do not know if its due to the same issue, BUT, as the XM stopped working so did my HYUNDAI CABLE Aux cord I use to connect my IPHONE that displays the info on the radio. My phone no will ... Lashawn , What do i use to lubricate the Calipers . My daughter's 2009 Sonata just started experiencing the same grinding noise symtoms as discussed here on this post . Also, with only 45000 miles , if the brake work is needed .. is it a warranty issue? Thanks Steve
I live in Canada, and I can see it on the road, the Sonata is selling better than most midsize cars, You would think that if they had these problems that most people would stop driving them, on the contrary they are selling like hotcakes. I have not test driven one yet, but I did test drive the mechanically equivalent KIA Optima, and it drives very nicely. It could be first ... Read More
I have a 2009 Sonata. Starting making a tapping noise about 3 weeks ago. I was on my way to the dealership when the oil and check engine light came on. The engine had to be replaced. I have about 37,162 miles on the car.
It seems to be luck of the draw if you get a Sonata that has a pulling problem. Of course, you wouldn't understand if your car does not have the problem. I had a 2009 Sonata for three years that didn't have any problems. I traded it for a 2012 that constantly wants to turn right. I don't understand why it steers this way and neither does the dealer. They checked ... Read More
You should have no problems maintenance wise on that vehicle. Check and make sure they had the maintenance done regularly. I would suggest taking it to local Hyundai dealer to have inspected by service dept, should charge $75-100 to check. Good luck
I guess it could be the economy of that area. I would have it checked out by a mechanic, it would probably we around $100. That would give the piece of mind your want. The Sonata should be a dependable car, if that is what your referring to as performance. It has 175hp and should get low 30-34 mpg on highway driving.
yes the car has 34000 miles left on the warranty,5year or 60000 miles warranty on hyundai sonata, yes they are selling the car 4000 dollars below the kbb value and 2000 dollars below edmunds value,so am scared if there is any hidden problem with the car,we just test drove on the local road but i had a bad experience previously when buying a used toyota corolla.i live in detroit michigan so am ... Unless its been driven in a lot as stop and go traffic, I would think the brakes should be fine. As far as other fluid changes, I'm not sure what Hyundai recommends, but 30,000 miles would be conservative for the trans oil also. We own a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with 37K miles, the majority of which are highway miles. When I worked at my local Hyundai dealer as Service Consultant, I ran into this issue on several occassions. The clutch is considered a wear item after the first 12k miles/12 months of ownership. The only way around that is to get the Hyundai District Service Rep. involved. He and only he can approve coverage under warranty not the Service Manager. Hope this helps.
My service advisor stated that it was because of lockups and the system freezing on the Hyundai logo screen. I haven't had that issue except for maybe once not long after I got the car and restarting the car took care of it. - Merg

"In trying to decide between a Mazda 6, Toyota Camry or Hyundai Sonata (2011), I've heard from at least 4 dealer personnel, two at other brand dealerships (which I dismissed as they are biased), but two at one particular Hyundai dealership (including a salesman and a technician I spoke with), that they have personally seen Hyundai give extreme difficulty to customers over what should have been coverage by Hyundai for warranty ... Replying to: windjammer (May 18, 2010 2:28 pm) For the first twenty five years or so they produced mostly junk, ... Got to disagree on this... Early on, OK bad cars, but by the late 90's these were decent cars. My mother in law had a 2001 Sonata. Great car with no issues. In 2001, I bought my kids a used 2000 Sonata GLS 4Cyl. with about 14K miles on the ... Read More
For the first twenty five years or so they produced mostly junk, ... You have GOT to be joking. Hyundai started selling cars in the US in 1985--25 years ago. Do you realize you are calling vehicles such as the 2007-10 Elantra (CR's Top Pick for compacts), the Genesis sedan (2009 NA COTY and CR's top-ranked upscale sedan), the Veracruz (which beat the Lexus RX in MT's comparo), the 2006-2010 Sonata ... "The CC is suffering from the same fate that the Phaeton did, it's a Volkswagen, a "people's car", yet it's not priced like a VW should be to 99% of car buyers. That's also why the Genesis sedan hasn't taken the Luxury class by storm in terms of sales (nor will the Equus). People don't think Hyundai or VW for $35K+ vehicles." ****** Aside from the price, the CC suffers from ... Read More
From Automotive News -- May 7, 2010 - 10:11 am ET Hyundai Motor Co., straining to meet demand for its U.S.-built vehicles, may hand over production of its Santa Fe SUV to sister company Kia Motor Corp. Hyundai builds the Santa Fe and the Sonata sedan at its sole U.S. plant, in Montgomery, Ala. Late last year, Kia opened its own U.S. factory 80 miles away, in West Point, Ga. Robert ... Read More

I posted this previously in the Hyundai Sonata in Snow and Ice I live in Northern Maine, where average snowfall in our location exceeds 100" annually, and have been driving in harsh winter conditions for over 20 years. Number one thing you can do to improve the way the car handles in to buy 4 good snow tires. I have a set of directional snow tires on my 2009 and have ... Read More

Just a correction and elaboration of post 187. The Sonata is a 2009. My front brakes were in excellent condition the rear brake pads were almost completely ruined. As several posters note this is just the opposite for the wear factor. There is something inherently wrong with this cars rear brake pads and Hyundai should fess up and fix the problem immediately at no cost to the owners.
This is a gorgeous car. and I really really want it. Too bad my current ride is fairly new (2009 Mazda 6). Hey if anyone from Hyundai willing to exchange my Mazda 6 for a Sonata, I can give you some good advertising. But I just cannot afford to lose money trading in at the moment.
Why not just jump on one of those slightly-used 2009 Sonatas (same as the 2010) that are out there, get it at a Hyundai dealer and spring for the Hyundai extended warranty if that makes you feel better about buying used, and call it a day?
