I have had the same problem. I was told that "it was supposed to sound like that" but I know what the car sounded like when I bought it. My car has been in the shop off and on 4 times in the last 5 months for the same noise. They have replaced the timing belt, some chain thing, another pump, and recently put in some sound thing to make the ... Read More
Why not take the Terrain to the dealer and let them check it out. Our 2010 Terrain has approximately 20,000 miles and has been OK. Let us know what you find in case anyone has similar issues in future. Thanks, Cosmo
also have had problems with timing chain was replaced now making same knocking loud engine noises dont know if this should be a recall check engine lights never came on . I know the car did not make these noises when we bought it.
I sent my information via e-mail. I appreciate any assistance I can receive. I know my resale value is nothing now, nobody is going to buy a car that sounds the way it does, not to mention the sound when you press the gas. I bought this car because of the advertised gas mileage and the room it has in the back for my boys sports equipment. Now, I am apprehensive ... Read More

A real shame about the problems with the 4 cyl, the vast majority of Terrrain and Equinox problems relate to the 4 cyl. while the 6 cyl. seems trouble free.
It is a 4 cyl. I traded in my Ford Expedition to downsize and get better gas mileage. I have regretted that decision. I would like GMC to buy back this particular vehicle. I have gone to JAG to inquire about our states lemon laws.
Wow, that's not good, 4or 6 cyl?
I bought my 2010 GMC Terrain in Nov of 2009. At first, things were wonderful..fast forward to now...it has been in the shop to replace the timing chain, cam shaft, tempature gage (when it overheated). It has a horrible loud knocking noise in the engine, which I have taken it into service. Was told this is how it is supposed to sound...I would NOT have bought a car that sounds like ... Read More
Ok – HELP, just purchased a GMC Terrain SLT2 4-cycl - my most important factor in choosing a new vehicle was MPG, finding the Best Rated. I just purchased Friday Dec 17, 2010 and drove over 500 miles and ONLY got 21.1mpg in my 4cycl front wheel drive, SLT2. Average speed 62mph. “This is from the GMC Terrain website – Terrain FWD EPA-estimated MPG: 22 city/32 hwy with the 2.4L 4-cylinder ... Read More
The 2010 GMC Terrain I have has all wheel drive with Stabilitrak. . I was pretty impressed with the combination of the two together –all wheel drive and Stabilitrak. The 2010 Terrain benefits from the same updates as this year's redesigned Equinox. Under the hood is a torquey base four-cylinder that offers best-in-class fuel economy and competitive acceleration. There's also an available direct-injected 3.0-liter V6 that's similarly competitive in terms of fuel economy and power. Inside, the Terrain boasts a snazzy center stack and attractive control layout that make its rivals' cabins seem dull and unimaginative by comparison. An abundance ... Read More
I was told 30 days ago by the local GMC dealer that he could not order 2010 Terrains only 2011 and they are not available. I'm 75 and owned more vechiles than I can remember. I do remember those I pre-ordered and never again. If I cannot touch it, smell it and drive it I do not buy. Thanks but no thanks for who ever suggested I pre-order! :(
Hi wtalbot. Savvy consumers who shop around in an area that has a decent level of competition are usually able to beat the selling prices that were used to arrive at manufacturers' official advertised lease payments. If I was interested in leasing a 2010 GMC Terrain right now, I personally would shoot for a selling price of $500 to $1,000 over dealer invoice minus the $500 cash incentive that General Motors ... Hey cnote2. GMAC's current base lease rate and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 GMC Terrain SLT1 FWD with 12,000 miles per year are 2.8% and 45%, respectively. When negotiating your deal on this truck, make sure to take advantage of the (measly :)) $250 cash incentive that is available on leases of it through GMAC. I'm happy to report that the dealership was wrong: the computer was NOT fried on our 2010 GMC Terrain. Thanks to a hard working techician, he was able to bring a dead / scrambled computer back to life. To rehash the issue: We had the vehicle in for a recall. Part of the work was to reprogram the computer. During the programming, the GMC programming website kept going down. This caused ... Read More
Hi, thanks for emailing me about this issue. I'm happy to report there has been a new positive development in the computer issue thanks to a hard working Technician. Yesterday afternoon husband was called to say vehicle is ready(???). I called to get more details and actually spoke to the technician who did the work. He explained that while programming the vehicle, the GMC website (TIS2WEB) went down. He tried reprogramming ... Read More

Got a recall notice for GMC Terrain to reprogram" the computer". Took it in today. Dealer called: Seems while programming the computer, the GMC website "went down" causing the computer to "fry"(??). No parts are available and was told it could take months to get the parts! Now I'm worried that more may have been damaged. Not sure what to do at this point. Dealt with wary dealership personnel who were ... Read More
Hello Mark, I am from GM Customer Service. The normal way to clear the "change oil soon," is to turn you key to on but, don't start your engine. Then quickly press the gas pedal down (all the way) three times, it should clear the warning lamp. However, if you have DIC buttons this is how you clear it. 1. Turn the ignition to ON /RUN , with the engine off. ... Read More

I have a new 2010 2.4 GMC Terrain with a loud clicking noise under the hood. GMC has a bulletin on this. It is caused by the electric fuel pump. It is very noticeable. I am waiting on a call from GMC to see if they can fix this. Has anyone else noticed this sound? Mike
On Monday I test drove the Terrain AWD after looking to purchase either a Honda CRV, Chevy Equinox or the GMC Terrain. As a single mom I have only paid cash for the past several years inlcuding paying $30,000 cash for my current car a 2004 Land Rover Freelander...yes I know...poor choice of car. Due to my lack of credit usage I was told to get a co-signer in which my ... Read More

Hi socallessee. I believe that both the $1,000 conquest cash and the $500 bonus can be used on leased Terrains. GMAC's current base lease rate and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2010 Terrain SLE-1 2WD with 12,000 miles per year are 2.35% and 46%, respectively. I would be happy to work up a sample lease payment on this truck for you. For now I will assume that ... Read More
Hi, I am considering leasing a new 2010 Terrain SLE-1 (least expensive model) and I was wondering what kind of payments I could expect. The TMV pricing report lists the MSRP (including destination charge) at $24,995 while the invoice is $23,661. However, the TMV price is $24,995 for my area (southern california). GMC is also currently offering $1500 in incentives on the terrain ($500 (waiving 60 day trial period) + $1000 ... Read More
I saw both the GMC Terrain and Chevy Equinox at the Texas State Fair this past weekend. They both looked great inside and out--outside was where the differences really could be seen. The disappointing part of both was the seats. They were uncomfortable, lacked support, were thin and the front headrest hit in all the wrong places. My current '08 Pilot has much more comfortable and supportive seats in both front ... Read More
how soon will they arrive in the US?
At first glance, you'd say the 2010 GMC Terrain is a truck: upright, squared-off and with beefy shoulders over the wheels that would look right at home on a Hummer or Jeep. Until the large Acadia crossover appeared, GMC had always been a purist's truck brand, maker of body-on-frame haulers and workhorses. The Terrain wears its GMC badges proudly (there are even little GMC emblems molded into the side reflectors incorporated ... Read More
"Chiseled fender flares give it a more truck-like, less grocery-getter appearance than the Chevrolet Equinox or Saturn Vue, though. Apart from that, it's just a useful compact SUV. Its five-passenger cabin is spacious, and even with electric-assist power steering, the Terrain's handling is crisp. And, we might even take the base four-cylinder engine over the optional V6." GMC has just announced that the 2010 Terrain crossover, the mechanical twin of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, will start at $24,995, $1,810 more than Chevy. 2010 GMC Terrain Priced at $24,995 (Straightline)
