Yup puf is right on. Save all documents and dump that car as soon as you can. We will prevail in a court of law if we stand together,. Ford knows this . they simply cant get away with this anymore. thank god for the internet.

I wouldn't play with the S mode especially down shifting. Do you have a 2.0 or a 1.6? I have Ti, Ford made a mistake getting rid of then SEL Focus IMAO, Save your money up and trade or sell it before your tranny goes and keep all records. Puffin

The amount of misinformation on here is comical: “I do know the escapes are a cvt type transmission.” – maniac4 No it isn’t. It’s a conventional torque converter automatic. “.. so i got a rental. .2012 Ford fusion. .. same tranny. ..” - starluck3000 No it’s not. My 2012 Ford Focus has been in the shop for 25 days now. Needs a clutch, but guess what they are on back order. Ford has a big issue on their hands. I have been given a date sometime at the end of July for a clutch to arrive to fix my car, but then I ask will the car even be fixed or will this happen all over again. I ... Read More

New to edmunds, but I found it by looking up the same exact problem as everyone else. This forum came up as one of the top results on Google. I have been having the grinding issues between 1st and 2nd gear since about miles 17,000. I brought it in around mile 18,000 and they said it was just normal transmission sounds and gave me some piece of paper that said it ... Read More

I had the same problem(s) with my 2012 Ford Focus SEL. It started in July 2012 at 300 miles and continued until FMC bought it back in December 2012! The story of it senses how you drive is implausible. What if my wife drives it? My son? They tried "reprogramming." (Twice) They rebuilt the transmission (twice). The installed a new transmission (only once). All to no avail. I filed a complaint ... Read More

I am having similar problems with my 2012 Ford Focus SE. It shakes and shudders upon stop and go. I am worried that this shaking is going to cause other problems down the road. I have had my car in twice for software upgrades that did absolutely nothing to help this problem. I was told that the computer senses the way I drive and this is why it does this!!!!! It ... Only if you can be certain that the Fusion does NOT have the same type transmission as the Focus does. I'm not positive, but I believe the Fusion has a more traditional automatic. Check with a Ford service department, to be sure. Do NOT rely on what the salesperson tells you.

I am the unfortunate owner of a 2012 Ford Focus SE, with the misbegotten 6-speed "automated manual" transmission. I've had the car about 1.5 years, and have amassed just over 18,000 miles on this vehicle. The transmission started lurching and jerking on acceleration from stops, a few days after I took delivery. I returned to the dealership, to be told that there was a software upgrade for my car. While the ... Read More

Can't get any speed out of it. Left it back at the dealership and told them not to call me until it's fixed once and for all.

MFT is still on target for 1st Quarter - not sure where you got the 2nd or 3rd quarter estimate from. Ford won't allow fleet sales to affect resale value. That only happens with fleet dumping to rental companies and that's not happening. Focus sales for January were the best since 2003 and up significantly from 2011.

“The acceleration is what you would expect from a computer controlled 6 speed that is programed for good miliage.” Consumer Reports testing shows that the Focus has the best acceleration of any of its automatic-equipped direct mainstream competition (Cruze, Elantra, Jetta, Corolla, Civic, Mazda3), beating most by a half second or more. It also holds its own on fuel economy with 28 mpg overall, beaten slightly by the Elantra (29), Civic ... Read More

The 2011 Elantra you are talking about hit the dealers in Dec. 2010 and that is why it was called a 2011 model and not a 2012 model. If it had been introduced in 2011 they could have called it a 2012 model like Ford did with the Focus which hit dealers about two to three month after. The 2012 Elantra came out about the time that most new car introductions ... Read More

The 2012 Ford Focus came out in early spring 2011. You will note the new Elantra that came out shortly thereafter that everyone was comparing with and against this Focus was actually a 2011. So in the fall of 2011 the 2012 Elantra came out but the 2012 Focus was out six months or more early. Expect the 2013 Ford Focus to make it's appearance as most other cars in the ... Read More
