LOS ANGELES — The 2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec is the lowest priced Veloster Turbo model, with a starting price of $22,110, including an $810 destination charge.

It debuted at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.

A Hyundai Motor America spokesman told Edmunds that the Veloster Turbo R-Spec is approximately $1,000 less than the next turbo model in the lineup. But detailed 2014 Veloster pricing was not available at the time of this writing.

The Veloster Turbo R-Spec will go on sale in early February in the U.S.

It is the fourth R-Spec model in the Hyundai lineup, following the Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec, Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec and Genesis 5.0 R-Spec.

The Korean automaker says the R-Spec designation "represents the ultimate performance version of each of these models."

The Veloster Turbo R-Spec, which gets the 201-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, is available only with the six-speed manual transmission. It adds a short-throw B&M sport shifter, a sport suspension and retuned steering settings.

Exterior touches include optional red accents on the front splitter and side blades. Hyundai said they would be available later in the model year. Option prices were not announced.

The Veloster Turbo R-Spec also gets red leatherette bolsters with red and black cloth insert sport seats in place of the standard leather on other Veloster Turbo models.

Other standard equipment from the Turbo model has been deleted from the R-Spec. It includes proximity-key entry with push-button start, a premium gauge cluster, side-repeater mirrors, driver's auto-up window, high-gloss interior cues and heated leather seats.

Edmunds says: Value-minded shoppers who still want a little kick may be happy with the 2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec.

Put the 2.0 with 274 hp and you have a car people will want. The 1.6 just does not have enough power to make the car something special. Sorry Hyundai, I expect more.

I think it is very cool to have a performance trim with the luxury bits deleted and actually cost less.

Not a big Hyundai fan, but I am a fan of this option, and it's priced right.
