LOS ANGELES — The Volvo S60 Polestar Concept, which is envisioned as a platform for a potential racecar, is headed for the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Volvo S60 Polestar Concept churns out 508 horsepower from a tuned, turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine — 208 more hp than the production version of Volvo's T6 engine. It sprints from zero-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of more than 186 mph.

The S60 Polestar Concept is decked out in Rebel Blue exterior paint and features a lowered and widened chassis and Ohlins suspension.

"We approached this project by looking at the production Volvo S60 as a platform for a potential racecar — and the culmination of that data went into the design of the S60 Polestar Concept," said Jan Andersson, Polestar chief engineer, in a statement.

Polestar is Volvo's performance partner.

Edmunds says: The production versions of the Polestar-tuned 2013 Volvo S60 R-Design and XC60 R-Design can be ordered in Rebel Blue, so they can get a little bit of the concept's flavor.
