HONG KONG — The Infiniti Q30 Concept, which takes dead aim at the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, will make its world debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The Q30 concept is a premium compact sedan that slots below the 2014 Infiniti Q50. The Q50 is designed to compete with the BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Infiniti does not currently have a product to compete with the new entry-level Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class in terms of size or price.

The CLA-Class starts at $30,825.

Infiniti says the new concept "is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion" and "the next step into Infiniti's foray into new premium segments."

The design of the Q30 concept is supposed to suggest "muscularity," says the automaker. Infiniti also noted that its "forthcoming compact premium entry will be the first Infiniti model Sebastian Vettel, Infiniti's director of performance, will influence from its inception."

That comment suggests that the Infiniti Q30 is already a go for production.

Edmunds says: Infiniti's not going to waste any time getting the Q30 into the hands of buyers.
