Just the Facts:
  • First photos of the 2014 Lexus IS are released ahead of its official debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
  • Both IS 250 and IS 350 models will be available, plus an IS 300h hybrid version.
  • The Lexus IS 350 F Sport is also part of the lineup.

TORRANCE, California — Photos of the all-new 2014 Lexus IS were released by Toyota on Wednesday, ahead of the car's official debut on Tuesday, January 15 at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

Both IS 250 and IS 350 models will be available, plus an IS 300h hybrid for markets outside the U.S., a first for the IS lineup.

The 2014 IS features Lexus' new spindle grille design and a new headlamp cluster with L-shaped daytime running lights (DRL) set below.

An all-new interior caters to the driver, with a lowered hip point and increased steering wheel adjustability. The car's longer wheelbase and increased width also open up the rear of the cabin, which Lexus says now offers best-in-class knee room. Other upgrades include a new 60/40 split-folding rear seatback and electrostatic switches that allow for temperature adjustments just by touching the center console.

An LFA-inspired steering wheel comes standard on the 2014 Lexus IS, and the IS 350 F Sport version gets an exclusive perforated leather finish to the steering wheel and shift knob along with metal trim, black seat stitching and aluminum pedals and scuff plates.

A choice of three F Sport interior color options, including a new Rioja Red finish, are available.

Edmunds drove a prototype version of the IS last year, but no additional details were released at the time.

Edmunds says: Lexus is taking a very conservative approach to the redesign of its compact sport sedan. Hard to tell at this point if it's a good idea or too little, too late.
