Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsUnlike many SUVs, the Touareg's engine is happy to rev all the way to redline. Our best runs were achieved by simply flooring the pedal without any brake torque. Shifts are quick in "S" mode and the transmission's manual control works well.
Braking ratingVery Good
Braking commentsAny SUV that stops from 60 mph in 120 feet is impressive. The Touareg managed this performance with relative consistency in both its stopping distance and pedal feel stop after stop.
Handling ratingGood
Handling commentsStability control cannot be fully disabled but doesn't interfere until the Touareg's chassis has been truly maligned by some serious wheel sawing. Stability and control feel are both quite good for a vehicle this tall. The Touareg's manners are impressive. Still, without the electronics damping the fun, the numbers would be better.
