Used 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
Great Reliable Car
164,000 miles and running great. Reliable as can be. Good on gas, MPG has dropped slightly as the car aged but still gets 30mpg city easily. Massive trunk for a small car. Other than ground clearance it is a very good winter car. Only issue is an intermittent CEL related to an emissions issue that comes and goes. Dealer says its not worth chasing as the car runs perfect. Definitely will consider another Jetta or VW product.
poor decision
great car to look at, replaced 2 O2 sensors, brakes, bumper pulls off if parked too close to curb, chronic, unresolvable rattle in gear shift, console latch broke, mirror control fell off, cloth interior impossible to clean looks like %&*@ all the time. Never again!

Tough to Beat!
I purchased our Jetta for my wife a little over a year ago. At first I was a little concerned about the sticker price (in comparison to other models in the same class) but the fuel economy was the kicker. After a little over a year I find myself running errands just so I have an excuse to drive it. The performance is outstanding and the mileage just cant be beat. All I can say is sharp, fun to drive, and well built! I am sold on VW!!
Great Car!
I bought this car used with 50,000 miles on it. It has been a great car. The check engine light was on at the dealer, but they fixed it before I took possession, it has been great ever since. (made it easier to negotiate price anyway:) ). The only major problem so far was the lower torque strut. It stripped a bolt and broke the other, but it wasn't hard to fix. The interior rubber coating was a bad idea, but not hard to remedy with a trim kit. All in all a great car in all the important areas; performance, general good looks, handling, general reliability. The handling doe require some tuning to limit body roll.
Won't purchase again
Have a 01, GL with 35K, enjoyed driving it until had a "computer and air sensor" problem. Dealer had my car for 2 weeks - poor communication/service. Should be reliable at 35K. I am selling for a Mazda. Do your research before purchasing. Hopefully improvements are being made with service.
