Drivers Wanted - Mechanics Needed
My 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI is the worst car I've ever owned. It has had lots and lots of problems with the front end, brakes etc... the list is endless. Don't make the same mistake I made, buy a Honda or Toyota. I spent all my free time at the dealership, waiting for the latest excuse why my car won't run right, but how there is nothing wrong with the car.

Don't go there...
I've owned Hondas for years and decided to take a chance on a VW...bad move. I can't believe the number of time this thing has been in the shop. VW must have figured out what terrible cars they were building because they bumped the 2yr warranty up to 4 years now. A lot of good that did me. VW credit and VW customer service were horrible as well. This is by far the worst experience I've had with a car.
I'll never buy another VW.
I don't have time to list all of the problems I've had with this car. The worst was the "transmission blew up from the inside". I enjoy driving it when it isn't in the shop, but the hassle of constant problems greatly reduces the experience. I know others who have had similar experiences, and it is clear that VW has written off a generation of Jetta owners. Their national and local customer service has been awful. After a major breakdown I limped to a local dealer who refused to even look at the car for 3 weeks. I called another dealer, but he hung up on me. The VW America customer service was horrible.
The truth about the 1.8t Jetta
Want to know about the 1.8t Jetta? This engine had a faulty design from the start. It basically just tries to pull too much power from a 4 cylinder, which is very hard on the engine. The engine has "hot spots," which can cause oil viscosity and break down, and lead to major problems without warning. I put 4, yes 4 oil pumps in this car, with no warranty help from Volkswagen. If you do not get all your service done at a dealer (an overpriced dealer) don't ever expect to be covered by any warranty. I've spent over $3,000 on this car that has 75k miles on it. Volkswagen doesn't want anyone to know about their design flaw. Of course in their 1.8t Passats they have offered an extended warranties.
