Lets see this is my fourth volkswagen ive owned 3 jetta's and one passat. I bought my jetta with 157,000 miles on it. the first week i had it I had to fix the water pump and the radiator fan ($500) after 5,000 miles I fixed the exhaust leak($250) then at 166000 the day before my florida road trip the transmisson blew I got that fixed as well costing ($1900)after that came a muffler repair again costing($175) the last issue comes a week later, again with the water pump timing belt & drive belt costing me ($425) Other than that list in less than a year I still love my volkswagen, its fun to drive speaker sound is great! gas milage i get 200 to the tank eh! vw is costly when it breaks it happens

2000 VW Jetta GL TDI

I love the low RPM torque the little diesel puts out. It requires only minimal changes in throttle settings to climb hills. My automatic transmission has been perfect. Timing belt changes are the norm for all current vehicles and this is an somewhat expensive procedure. Not the best build quality and lots of rattles and other noises have developed. Occassional "Check Engine" lights but VW's seem to have these and they usually go away on their own. This car should not be a daily driver for a non-mechanic. Too much trouble on the little things. Expensive to repair. Really bad CD changer in trunk. 600+ miles to the tank.

My 2000 vr6 jetta was bought new, and now has 159k miles on it. Just replaced original front pads, rotors, and control arm bushings. I still have the original clutch. High quality components. There is no squeak, rattle, or false noise. The leather seats look like new, as does the clear coat, which I did not ruin by allowing ham fisted kids to scratch to oblivion. These are very well designed cars. There are a handful of weak components, with easy solutions. Coil packs crack after 70k miles. Solution: epoxy, and it will fix it and last forever. Some plastic parts in the cooling system will need to be replaced after 130-150k miles. Big deal, it's a car with miles on it.

Yea I bought my car from some guy who treated it like crap, when i bought it from him it had like 119,000 miles and a lot of stuff was wrong with it not anything extremely serious but it was a bit costly, i fixed every single thing that was wrong with the car and after that i never had problems with it again. very reliable car to have and very good on miles. thanx a million vw!
