2005 Volvo V70
Volvo built an ideal sleeper wagon. The V70R (2001 - 2005) is an AWD Wonder Wagon. I've been driving mine (a 2005) fourteen years now, and it has gotten better and faster throughout. Between the original factory speed tuning and aftermarket upgrades (see iPd), power well north of 350 hp and fat torque throughout the powerband is very attainable... the "advanced" mode on the dashboard … performance selection changes not only suspension but throttle and brake response and tends to startle passengers unless warned in advance... center of gravity is very low, and the only issue is a relatively wide turning radius due to overwidth wheels to support fat, grippy rubber.
If you can keep your foot light, mileage is quite reasonable. If you choose to drive aggressively, it's a monster. Roof rails handle bikes, canoe, or cargo boxes with aplomb. Enormous cargo volume with the rear seats down.
Monsters are good. This one ROARS. If you can find one, buy it. Mine's not for sale.
