Needing a car for our daughter to drive to university, I was shopping around for another reliable Camry. On line I spotted a 2004 Solara V6 SLE for sale, about eight hours from where we lived. The car had been written off (rear end collision), rebuilt, and government re-certified as being roadworthy. It was relatively low mileage: 100k km (62.5k mi) for a 15 year old car. The price was about equivalent to much newer used Camrys on the market. Being a longtime sports car driver, I immediately fell for this Toyota "sporty" coupe. After taking the Solara for a long test drive, checking it out up top and underneath, and talking to the mechanic who re-built it, it was ours.
I have never driven a used or new car that handles and performs so silky-smooth, and I appreciate the smooth pulling torque of the Lexus V6. With Nokian winter tires the Solara handles snow and ice very well. Toasty warm in winter - love the seat heaters. Very reliable after just 10k km since buying - and very reliable for a 15 year old car that was written off. Solid quite ride. Luxurious comfortable interior, excellent gauges, switchgear. Fully loaded except for sat nav (which I wouldn't want anyway). The smooth sculpted lines, optional Oceanus Pearl (moderately-metallic dark blue) paint and gold plated lettering look quietly classic. Research into costs for an SLE with these options reveal the car was about $38,000 Cdn off the showroom floor - quite an expensive 2 dr coupe in its day.
In summary: my daughter, wife and I constantly bicker over who gets to drive the SLE. It will be in our family for a long time.
