Amazing car. The AWD makes a world of difference.

John Young, 02/09/2025
2023 Lexus ES 250
I am a car enthusiast. This car is extremely reliable and practical. If you are deciding between ES350 and ES250, if you need AWD, don't think twice, get this. If you like to drive fast with amazing acceleration, neither car is sporty but you can drive at high speeds very smoothly. I have driven both the ES350 and ES250. ES350 would slip and shake when you floor it(accelerate hard) from … a stop, so it's rather annoying. For an average driver who doesn't accelerate much, a little bit of gas paddle would get you going fast. Because of how much the wheels spin, drive modes don't make a difference in ES350. With ES250, you can put it in sport mode and gears change fast, it doesn't slip at all thanks to all wheel drive and it is more than adequate power. In the ECO mode, you can drive super smoothly, in Normal mode you don't need as much patience. This AWD is amazing when you drive fast on heavy rains, you feel very comfortable with the road. If you like using the paddle shifters, you can make this 2.5L AWD a lot of fun. If you drive it gently, it is extremely quiet and comfortable. If you thrash the engine, yes you can hear the engine slightly more in the ES250 than ES350. ES350 engine is very smooth, but considering how careful you have to be to not have those front wheels spinning without moving the car(front wheel slip is significant), sometimes even when you are driving at 40 mph, I would pick the ES250 any day. ES250 All Wheel Drive(AWD) system and engine are the same as what you find in the All Wheel Drive Toyota Rav4. We all know they are very reliable, and very capable, so you can be sure that this car is too. ES300h has the same engine as the ES250, but isn't AWD, but has a little more power and an electric motor. The bad thing about ES300h is that the transmission is CVT(Not long lasting), where as ES250 and ES350 have a more reliable traditional 8 speed automatic transmissions. Bottom line is, if you want a extremely reliable and capable car and it snows or rains a lot where you live, or you are a person who travels a lot, the ES250 is the best Lexus ES to get. My ES250 has 23,000 miles now and it's been extremely reliable, comfortable, quiet and most importantly, no matter what the weather has been, I have felt very safe driving this car. ES250 is a well rounded car for daily drivers and enthusiasts alike. If you want a sports car, buy an actual sports car. This car is for comfort, reliability and luxury.
