2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid
I want to love this car and it gave me great gas mileage. When all I did was drive only around town it went 2,000 miles on 20 gallons of gas with just running errands and charging at home overnight. One long 2,000 mile trip gave 35 MPG in hybrid mode which I think is low compared to other Hybrids. One big issue is that once it gets cold outside they heat the cabin with engine water … heat so the engine must run to heat the cabin. You'll be running on battery with the engine idling in the background to create heat. AC works on battery so you get better mileage in the summer than in the winter cause you drive around with an idling motor. Turn off the climate and only turn on heated seat and steering wheel to get better mileage, just silly!!!
I love the interior and the basic car but once you get to the tech and electronics it all falls apart!! Very little of Bluelink actually works as its supposed to. If its associated with Bluelink, be doubtful. Hyundai tech will not take responsibility and will push you to Bluelink team who will just ask you to wait till the next SW update.
I can only speak to my car which was an Santa Fe PHEV Limited and it would not keep a charge schedule so that means what Hyundai touts as Charge reservations doesnt work at all. It just charged whenever its plugged in, which until you have an EV and want to charge when energy costs are low, doesnt seem like a big deal but it is. Hyundai acknowledges that there is an issue with the software but they do not have a fix for it. Additionally, the Santa Fe is limited to 16 amp charging so even at 220v it takes almost 4 hours for 100% charge/31 miles.
I've had repeated headlights going out, taillights going out, EV drive failure, Brake system failure, Sensor failures, check engine lights and system failure indicators, all within 6 months and less than 4,500 miles.
After jumping through a lot of hoops and Hyundai declining multiple times, they have finally decided to buy my car back but now I'm stuck having to buy a new car again and my old-reliable truck that I traded in is gone. In hindsight, wish I had just kept my old truck and not had this ordeal.
