2009 Ford Taurus X
My review is going to be odd as its for super long period. I special ordered this 09 taurus x in late 08 and i believe it was one of the very last taurus x's made when the stopped production of this model in February 09. Since i am wary of too much tech gadgetry causing problems, i ordered it with essential features, like A/C, the basic sync stereo system so the cell phone can sync to … the car. but i did not want auto shutting tailgate, or dvd players that could break or a sunroof that could leak. I keep cars for a long time. So i value reliability above all else. so i delete these type options when ordering. this car was first delivered to my local Ford dealer in Hawaii, where it was driven daily for the first 5 years to work at pearl harbor and used for normal home depot and shopping trips. During that time, i put about 34,000 miles on it and had no problems at all with it. just changed oil. i then shipped it to los angeles and drove it to ft lauderdale florida to a relatives house where i use it when i visit them a few times a year. Over the years, i have driven to back out to Utah and then back to Florida and then up to Virginia and basically, all over the country. But its still fairly low mileage for its age of 12 years. but what i am impressed with is that absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this car in all these years. i have changed oil over the years and tires once. thats it. The car still has the original battery in it, which i find incredible. normally car batteries last about 5 years. but this car drives like brand new and it looks like a car only a couple years old. the edmunds reviewer say the engine is loud and unrefined under hard acceleration. their wording seems to exaggerate what i observed. what happens is if you push the gas pedal all the way to the floor, you will hear the engine roar, but its about what you'd expect to happen when you floor board the pedal. this will likely never be experienced by normal driving as if you do that, the car lunges forward rapidly to such a degree that i can't imagine anyone needing to throttle the engine to obtain such sudden speed. so its a non issue to me. but if you can find one of these cars thats been well maintained, chances are you will find you got a solid, well built car thats practical. If you can't find one of these, as another reviewer wrote, look at the Flex. its essentially the exact same car with same driving dynamics. but as with any car, i would suggest to get a model with the least amount of "bells and whistles" as i find most of the complaining about cars in general are such that they are upset with some of the gadgets not working, that they probably don't need. Just get options you need
Edmunds wants me to update this review from when i originally wrote it a few years ago. No additional comments. this car continues to have astounding reliability at 13 years old now. its still never had a mechanical breakdown since new. i did have to change the battery last year. i couldn't believe the battery from the factory actually lasted almost 12 years. but it did, tires will need to be rotated soon. but its an excellent car. if you can find one thats been reasonably well cared for, buy it!
