2004 Chevrolet Avalanche
What a great truck! It's is 20 years old with 300,000 miles and has been super reliable. I did the transfer case pump rub fix a few years ago and new rear axle seals and bearings. These were the only major repair items on a then 17 year old truck, with 300K miles! The mid gate is great for hauling full sheets of plywood and ladders. Bose sound system sounds very good. The Z71 package … goes through just about anything, ice, snow, muddy fields. The ride is incredible for a "pickup" better than most new trucks and certainly more dependable. Just avoid the GM models after 2006 with active fuel management. My buddy is going on his third engine and transmission with under 200K miles on his 2011. This is my second 2004 Avalanche. The first Avalanche is still going strong, but a complete rust bucket. I use it for ice fishing in Minnesota and it still crashes through 4ft snow drifts without getting stuck. If you find a clean one, get it rust proofed and do the annual treatments to keep it mostly rust free. Manageable problems include the transfer case pump rub issue, problems with the HVAC actuators, cluster issues (got mine rebuilt for $150), plastic cladding fading ( I shot mine with rustoleum, looks great) and the typical GM rust. The truck is very simple to service and perform maintenance repairs on, even for the guys with vice grips and screw drivers for tools.
