Used 2001 Saturn S-Series Consumer Reviews
Nice car
I absolutely love my car. I get 36 miles per gallon in town. I also live in an area where there is a lot of salt on the roads in winter and it doesn't affect the appearance (doesn't rust).
36K and going strong!
I've had my manual-transmission 2001 SL for 17 months now (36K), and I love it! Best thing is MPG: 34 city, 40 hwy (41.8 in one fairly level 300-mile stretch traveling at 70 mph)! Acceleration is adequate. Saturn service is EXCELLENT. Downside: Backseats cramped for adults. Traveling faster than 50 mph with rear windows rolled down produces an irritatng humming. Scheduled maintenance is unneccessarily aggressive (tires rotated twice now).
I Love My Saturn
This is without a doubt the best car I have ever owned. Two years ago I moved from NYC to Seattle. I drove the car across the country from East Coast to West Coast. It performed beautifully. Whether going through the mountains or plains, the mileage I got was excellent. I have absolutely no complaints at all with this car. I'd buy another Saturn in a heartbeat!
Falling out of love
I have loved my car for several years however the I am becoming very frustrated with it. Once things start breaking it has a snowball effect and always seems to be one thing or another. Each time I take it to the service department for regular maintance I end up with problems I did not take it in with. I do have over 100,000 miles on it, and drive it at least 100 miles a day. Gets great gas milage for commuting. My husband hates the car and has named it "the granny car" due to no accleration.
DON'T BUY THIS
I bought this car brand new, and have had it in the shop over a dozen times for the same things. The back door has a bad relay which does not allow you to unlock the door, this was replaced four times. The transmission is unstable. The answer from the Saturn dealer was "There is nothing wrong with it" even though it idols at 2500 RPM's, and the control panel for your windows and mirrors is right in front of the cup holder. If you use the cup holder and hit a bump, that shorts out entirely. The more I expressed concern about the safety of this vehicle the more I heard that there was nothing wrong with it.
