Which Wraith does Edmunds recommend?

For the classic Rolls-Royce experience, we recommend sticking with the standard Wraith. Of course, you can customize it to your heart's content, but we'd also suggest adding the Rolls-Royce Bespoke audio system (it sounds amazing) and the Driver Assistance Systems package to get adaptive cruise control.

Edmunds' Expert Review

Overall rating

If luxury isn't cheap, ultimate luxury is likely outrageously expensive. And that's the case with the 2019 Rolls-Royce Wraith. This big, opulent coupe has a starting price well past $300,000 and could be one worthy use of your well-padded financial portfolio. But the question is: Should you?

With a new Bentley Continental GT coming to market, the answer isn't so clear. The GT is smaller and more responsive from behind the wheel than the Wraith and offers similar interior refinement. Bentley's rival also costs $100,000 less and features more up-to-date technology. The Wraith does have more presence, however, and the Rolls-Royce name arguably has more cachet than any other automaker.

2019 Rolls-Royce Wraith models

The 2019 Rolls-Royce Wraith is an ultra-premium luxury coupe that is also offered in a more sinister Black Badge model. A turbocharged 6.6-liter V12 (624 horsepower, 605 lb-ft of torque) is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels. The Black Badge has the same engine, but it's tuned to deliver 642 lb-ft of torque.

Wraith
The standard Wraith is anything but basic. Standard feature highlights include:

  • Parking sensors
  • Adaptive headlights with automatic high-beams
  • Self-adjusting air suspension
  • Power-closing rear-hinged coach doors
  • Hands-free trunklid
  • Cruise control with curve detection
  • Leather upholstery
  • Wood interior accents
  • Heated front seats with massage functions
  • Head-up display
  • Lane departure warning
  • Surround-view camera system
  • Four-zone automatic climate control
  • 10.3-inch infotainment screen
  • Navigation system

To this, you can add a handful of bundled option packages that include:

  • Driver's Assistance Systems package:
    • Infrared night-vision display
    • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rolls-Royce Signature package:
    • Bespoke audio system
    • Lambswool floor mats
    • Starlight headliner
    • Monogrammed headrests

Many of the above options are available as stand-alone add-ons, as well as:

  • Ventilated front seats
  • Leather trunk floor
  • Two-tone paint schemes
  • Solid silver, gold-plated or illuminated polycarbonate Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament

Black Badge
The Black Badge ups the performance quotient and gets a menacing appearance with the addition of:

  • Sport-tuned suspension
  • Modified transmission calibration
  • Glossy black Spirit of Ecstasy
  • Carbon-fiber and alloy wheels
  • Upgraded brakes
  • Carbon-fiber interior trim
  • Darkened air vents

    Safety

Our experts’ favorite Wraith safety features:

    Camera System
Helps in parking and low-speed driving by providing a top-down view of the Wraith, while front cameras allow you to peek around corners.
Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go
Maintains a driver-set distance between the Wraith and the car in front and operates even when the Wraith slows to a stop.
    Night Vision
Displays a night-vision image in the central display screen that illuminates and identifies obstacles, such as pedestrians, at night.

    Rolls-Royce Wraith vs. the competition

    Rolls-Royce Wraith vs. Bentley Continental

The Bentley Continental GT costs significantly less than the Wraith but delivers as much old-world charm. Its interior is impeccably tailored with the finest leather, jewel-like switchgear and solid craftsmanship. On top of that, the GT is all-new for 2020, with more muscular styling and newer tech features.

    Rolls-Royce Wraith vs. Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe might not have as much brand cachet as the Rolls-Royce, but at half the price, is prestige really that important? In exchange, you'll get more responsive power, more comfort features, and tech features that are more up-to-date. On the downside, you won't have as many customization options as you would with the Wraith.

Rolls-Royce Wraith vs. Aston Martin DB11

The Wraith is a big luxury coupe, while the Aston Martin DB11 is a small sport coupe. In terms of performance and comfort, they're from different worlds, but they're equally adept at turning heads even in the priciest of neighborhoods. After vast improvements to the interior and infotainment, the Aston Martin is now worthy of comparison.

And from a financial perspective, it's true, provided you're willing to make higher monthly payments, pay off the loan in full and keep the car for a few years. Leasing, on the other hand, can be a less expensive option on a month-to-month basis. It's also good if you're someone who likes to drive a new car every three years or so.
