Love the Durango… Hate the oil leak!

2023 DD RT Plus Blacktop, WNC, 11/30/2023
2023 Dodge Durango R/T Plus 4dr SUV (5.7L 8cyl 8A)
2023 Durango RT Plus Blacktop Edition I purchased this vehicle 4 Months ago and had it back to the dealership twice now! The 5.7 engine developed an oil leak at (only 4,500 miles) at the oil filter adapter that attaches to the block. The dealership replaced it with a new one with new gaskets. Drove it for two weeks with no issues then the other night I smelled oil burning, looked … under the front and the whole bottom side of the engine and transmission are covered in oil. The adapter started leaking again! Added two quarts oil and drove it to the dealership the next morning. Dealership tried to repair the gasket by using “approved” Mopar sealant and it started leaking again after running 5 minutes. Now it’s been sitting for two days at the dealership waiting on another new adapter and gaskets. The dealership replaced the rubber trim on the back drivers door on the outside of the window. The rubber had turned a spotty white/gray looking color. The dealership also order new exhaust because the right side exhaust tip is pointing inward toward the center of the bumper. It was that way on the showroom floor when I purchased. 4 other Durangos on the lot had the same thing. Awesome quality control at Dodge!! Update 12/7/2023… After three failed attempts to fix the oil adapter leak, Dodge has granted to replace the whole engine with a new one. They determined the engine block was not milled correctly causing the oil adapter and engine block not to mate evenly which caused the leak after the engine warmed up. Build date on the Durango is 7-23 Update 4/5/2024, The new engine developed another oil leak after only 4,000 miles on it. The leak was towards the rear of the engine and Dodge claimed the oil pan gasket failed when the engine was put together at the factory. We had that repaired and two hours later smelled oil burning on the exhaust and also oil dripping onto the ground in the same area. Dealership claims it’s now a rear main seal that needs to be replaced along with another oil pan gasket. As much as I hated too because I’ve always been a Mopar guy, we got rid of this lemon!! Total mileage on the Durango 12,000 miles. We traded this Durango on a new Ford Explorer ST and haven’t looked back at Dodge since!! UPDATE: After the rear main seal was repaired, it was still leaking oil everywhere. Dodge technicians determined it was again the oil pan gasket. This did not cure the leaking oil. Dodge determined this new 2nd engine that the engine block wasn’t milled to specs causing the oil pan gasket to leak. This whole experience has turned me completely away from Dodge and I will never buy another Dodge vehicle ever again! Traded the Durango for a new 2023 Ford Explorer ST after I was told I needed a 3rd new engine in only 12,000 miles. Never had an issue with this Ford Explorer ST and it’s reliable!
