Talking about an '89 Cougar actually. Bought new and plan to keep it until one of us dies. Now has 143,000 miles. Replaced head with a used unit at about 118,000. No problems since. Still with original transmission. Leather interior has seen better days, but we're talking 15 years here.

After 220,000 miles the engine (302) still runs as smooth at new without any engine work. Fun vehicle to drive!

I love my antique 31 year old “1991” Mercury Cougar!! I live in Philadelphia so had rust repaired and repainted three times in the life span,(so far), of this very reliable car! It’s amazing how much this car holds.I have used it to move things many times. It’s deceiving looking with the amount of space it has. It’s like that of a stunt clown car. Watching what comes out in one car load. I love the way it looks ,the way it drives. Can’t say enough good about it!! Would like to restore the whole car and make it new again. Engine is great!! Shame they don’t make cars like this anymore.

You can drive this car all day and not get tired. Sticks to the road. I have a sports car and this Cougar corners as good. 3.8 is not super powerful but is just fine and gets 22 MPG with 230,0000 miles on it. Got 24 MPG at 56000 miles. 2019 and still running strong. Had to replace the Trans and head gaskets quite some time ago. I'm going to drive it until the wheels fall off. Only negative thing is there are no cup holders 2018 - Drove from Washington state to Georgia round trip. 8/2020. Still on the road. Replaced shocks a month ago. Odometer quit. Not going to fix. Replaced passenger window gear. Still cruising. 240,000 miles. 02/06/2022. Still running strong. Replaced front struts. 06/22. Replaced steering rack. Feb. 2023 -- Still running strong. New brakes last summer. Aprox. 245000 miles Feb 2024. Not using the cougar much. Have a Eurovan now so the Cougar is sort of retired from long trips. Odometer quit at 236000 last summer. It just won't quit. Still runs strong.
