Great design but poor quality and terrible service
Too many mechanical issues troughout the life of the car,but most were repaired through warranty till 60k. Car is heavier or at least feels heavier than normal mid size sedans. Poor traction due to preloaded struts. Feels too rough with all the weight on the suspention. Poor performance on potholes and uneven pavement. Steering too slow. Takes extra effort with steering wheel to get it to respond. Electric breakes were noisy and sluggish since day one. First major repair was a break booster at 75k miles. Cost with dealer about $3000. As soon as that was fixed new problem. Car just died while driving Warning light: • No “EV Ready” mode or “Ready” light blinks on and off • Check Engine light on • Charging warning light on • “Wrench” symbol (Service Indicator) blinks on and off Drivability symptoms: • Vehicle will not move from a stop or gasoline engine will not turn on. • Warning in the instrument cluster display: “Hybrid System Warning! Safely stop and Do Not Drive” and/or alarm sound. Had to be towed to shop and diagnosed with code P1B77 again not covered by powertrain warranty. Repair cost about $1000. Also very hard to find anyone who knows how to fix them, even dealer mechanics are clueless. Do not buy this car used. Only good till 60k miles while on warranty.

Awesome Mileage 140,000 without an issue.
Love the car. Only complaint would be lack of engine power when shifting between electric and gas motor. Doggy when making a turn from dead stop.

Frank - Ol’ Blue Drive
Bought Frank new and have been very pleased with the economy of this great driving sedan. Good power, nice that it will cruise just over 70 mph with the electric motor. Over 85k miles and no issues - just factory recommended services, oil changes and a set of tires after 70k. The full sun roof is nice when touring with out of town back seat visitors so they have a great view. I enjoy the full sound of the entertainment system as I do a lot of highway miles. There is some road noise.

My I Have Another One Please?
This vehicle has exceeded our expectations. We are so pleased this model I have no idea how it so seamlessly transitions between the gas engine and the electric motor. We cannot have a plug in model because we live in an apartment building and cannot have a dedicated parking space with a charging station. With the Sonata Hybrid we don't need one and feel like we are doing our part to combat Global Warming. The car is excellent, comfortable, dependable, reliable. Any service required is handled expertly by the Hyundai dealership service department. The car just goes and goes regardless of the weather, hasn't let us down yet. Gets great gas mileage, we went from filling up every week to every other week or better! Heated seats, mirrors and rear defroster that does it job quickly. We are definitely going to get another one after were done with this one. Which will be after our present one is paid off. I think we are going to have one built for us this next go- a-round so we can get all the features and color we want. We've bought 8 Hyundai Sonata's because of their passenger room, great looks, dependability and the all important warranty. We've also bought them from the same dealership because they are fair and honest and have always honored their promises. I'm not an easy customer, my family owned a car dealership so I know the game. I read the entire sales agreement/contract. I ask questions if something is not clear to me, I ask for it in writing. I haggle over the price on the new car and the trade in's value. I test drive the car I am going to buy, not a demo. I ask how things work in the car and require a demonstration of how something works if it is not clear via the explanation by the sales representative. And I have brought a new car back if I wasn't satisfied with the vehicle. Never had to return a Sonata.
Grateful for warranty - New engine AND battery
I purchased my 2015 Limited Sonata Hybrid with 58,000 miles. Grateful Hyundai has a generous warranty. Within the first month, I knew something was terribly wrong. I took it to my local dealer who was a strong advocate on my behalf. Bottom line, within the first two months both the hybrid battery and engine was replaced! Grateful I bought it under warranty because both big ticket items were covered. However, if I had purchased it out of warranty the repairs would have cost approximately $18,000 according to the dealership! The mileage is OK but not great for a hybrid. The repairs are just too expensive. I can’t believe a car with less than 60,000 had a bad battery and engine! Strangely enough, I like the look of the car and really enjoy driving it now. I will drive this until the next big issue comes up. I just don’t trust it overall. I am grateful to the dealership and glad Hyundai did the right thing in the end by covering the repairs. The battery went bad at 61,000k and they still replaced it!

SURPRISE!
I love this car as we have owned it since September 2014. It has all the makings of a luxury car. Love the panoramic sunroof. Car rides and drive is more than I expected and it is a very stylish vehicle. Two negatives are, passenger front seat sits too low. Although it is a limited there is no power seat and because of how low the passenger seats sits I wonder what would happen to the passenger if the air bag deflated, also says approximately 40 mpg hwy. Have never achieved that yet after 24,000 miles. Fuel gauge on dash is inaccurate when you check your mileage manually. Checking miles manually always comes out less mpg than gauge. It is a very hard vehicle to get the tank completely full as when the pump clicks off I have put in up to $2.00 more by patiently still pumping after each click.

OUTSTANDING MPG
What can I say, 717.4 miles to a tank of gas. Traveled from New Era, Michigan to Calhoun, GA. Used 16.92 Gallons, averaged 42.2-42.4 MPG. This has been the ultimate road trip in my Hyundai Sonata Hybrid!!

It's great until you have to replace the engine
I loved this car once...... I am the second owner and nothing is covered. My hybrid system failed and I developed an engine knock. I was told nothing was covered and that it would be several thousand dollars to repair. I am still making payments. If you have no issues then it's a fantastic car, but if you are a second owner and drive alot beware....... This is not the car for you!
