Let's be clear.
What the 20-'22 Shelby GT500 is NOT:
just a Mustang.
just a drag race car.
just a closed course track weapon.
.... isn't perfect by any means, either.
What is it thou, @ under $80k, base mdl?
The most well rounded, production Shelby Mustang ever.
Does everything above average.
You can find cars under $120k MSRP that have 1 or more advantages over it. Not sure you … can find any that can compete w/it in every category.
Those who have never given it a proper lashing, might say its a $35k Mustang GT w/a blower on top. Its not. The Ford engineers did a remarkable job of getting all areas to be congruent to ea other, within the confines of government and market standards & expectations. Edmunds review is pretty accurate I'd say. It certainly stops & corners better than any previous Shelby GT500, & outruns its siblings, including the GT350, Mach 1, & the Bullitt in all categories.
If you have never owned a DCT transmission, the Tremec 9070 7 speed is quite well sorted out in its computer shifting, as well as its ability to be toggled into manual mode, which is as fun diwn shifting as it is upshifting, without lifting off the throttle. Mutiple chassis setups at your fingertips, using the different modes from Slippery to Track, w/normal & Drag Strip also included. Being able to vary the 4 exhaust note decibel levels, from Quiet to Obnoxious, may seem trivia, but so needed once you have used it.
Again, its not perfect. You can find many complaints about thing like "the interior is to much like other Mustang models", or "its hard to achieve the 0-60mph, high 10 second quarter mi times, & Virginia Lightning Lab #'s tgat beat a Lamborghini Hurcan in 4.1 mi... Or the #'s that the magazine journalist claim, & the top YouTube drivers have legitimately squeezed from this machine, in great track & great weather conditions. All that said, the amazing results can be achieved. Will it be easy? No. Will it be better than Mustang you have ever owned? Absolutely 💯 %.
If your looking for a car that does just 1 thing really well, this may not be it. If you want to punch at or above your weight class in muti categories, you could do much worse that the car that would surely make Carroll Shelby himself proud. It follows the most important rule of his car building mantra. "Its better than any of the previous GT500's, that have his name on them". I feel fortunate to own 1 of these cars, & hope all Ford & Shelby enthusiasts get an opportunity to drive one in there lifetime.
It is heavy & yet it accelerates like cars much much lighter,ceith big power. 760hp & 625 lb-ft are enough to get anyone in trouble, so stay on a race trackvif you plan to shift this monster at 7500rpms in muti gear changes. If you genuinely like the Challenger or the Camaro, than buy either 1. They are good cars & do what they have a reputation for. If you have the need for a car that can do it all, than I would consider looking at the Shelby GT500. It will impress anyone who knows what a versatile machine can offer.
I am giving it 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 , because it does everything I need. Your taste & expectations may be different, & thats ok. To bad the Camaro, & V8 Challenger, are going away this year. Lost forever Id guess, with changing times.
