Dealership can't keep their promise...Buyers Beware!!!!!
Written by dpryor on 10/14/2007

I was quoted a price over the phone for a used Honda Element that my wife and I had previously looked at. I was told that they would give me the price if I was serious and would buy it that night. (Note that the salesman got the manager's approval before agreeing to my offer.) I told the salesman I was serious and would make the long journey to their dealership. I get there, drive the vehicle, look it over, read the Car Fax report and state that I'm ready to buy. While I'm filling out the financing forms, the salesman tells me that the price will be $500 higher than what was originally agreed. I said that was not acceptable and that we had agreed to a price. He goes to the manager to let them know that we were only going to buy at the original price. The manager comes out and tells my wife and I that they can't sell it for this price. I told him this was a sorry way to do business. Promise a customer one price, and then jack it up when they're ready to buy. Needless to say, I had to walk out very angry. I drove a long way for nothing. I promised myself that I will never set foot in the Lute Riley dealership again. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!

As I returned to work on Monday, the salesman from Lute Riley called me and offered a very generous compromise price. I asked to get it in writing as I was not about to make another trip to their dealership to get the shaft again. They faxed me the offer that was signed by the salesman and the manager. To make a long story short, I bought the vehicle. While I can't totally forget the first experience with them where they didn't hold their promise on price, I must respect their effort at making an amends. BTW: The salesman (Michael Redd) did an outstanding job of working with me through all of this. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a Honda.
