Dealership Sales Review

Great truck poor sales experience at AutoNation Ford Katy
Written by PullnRVs on 11/25/2016

First I want to say the truck is fine so that part I am good on. It is the sales practices of AutoNation Ford Katy that I take issue with. My experience started with the website which was also fine. I requested some additional information on a Certified F350 on their website and got a call back within 5 to 10 minutes which was great as I was boarding a redeye flight to return home and Houston was the layover point. I expected to be dealing with my questions while in the air so get a person right away was helpful because the vehicle looked great but the pictures seemed to be missing something, step rails. I have a family and the step rails were very important to me and it was the first thing I asked about and was told by the sales rep Mike C. with great promptness that the rails were upgraded autohide type. Trusting his succinct answers I told him that about by plan to change my travel plans to visit the lot to purchase the truck. We traded a few more emails while on the ground and in the air so I felt pretty darn good about it up to this point. I changed my connecting flight and when I arrived in Houston I booked a room and Ubered to the hotel. The following morning I Ubered from IAH to AutoNation Ford Katy and was promptly greeted by Mike C. As we are going over the vehicle it became clear that the truck did not have the autohide step rails and Mike did offer to give me his employee number so I could buy a set of rail out of my own pocket. I was not pleased to say the least but Mike did offer to take a 100 bux off the truck. 100 dollars is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things but I thought it was a nice conciliatory gesture. Mike C then brings out the numbers and the 100 dollars was deducted but what I found after that were fees for the CPO of the truck at 599 dollars, Window Tint at 199 and some other fee at 299 plus the typical documentation dealer processing fee. So this truck that once had a price on the website that included the CPO, Tint and my step rails has now gone down by 100 dollars but then right back up by 1000 dollars. To make matters even more infuriating I later found out that the rear windows are factory tinted and the previous owner had the front windows tinted before trading it in so it steams me even more to know that they tried to charge me 200 dollars for something they didn't even do. In the end they backed out the 599, 199 and 299 charges and discounted the truck by 100 dollars. So yes despite not having the step rails I bought the truck and I do not regret having the truck one bit. That said, what I sincerely regret is rewarding these unscrupulous used car salespeople with my business. These folks perpetuate the very stereotype the industry suffers from. My advice is if you plan on shopping AutoNation Ford Katy be prepared to scrutinize everything that has a number.
