Engine Smokes 30 Minutes After Leaving

I brought my car to Infiniti of Nashua for its yearly inspection. 30 minutes after leaving smoke starts pouring out of the engine. I took a video and sent it to the service adviser who assured me it was steam. However it was my air conditioner failing. When I asked the service adviser to explain what exactly was wrong he told me my coolant had leaked. When I asked to speak with his boss, the service adviser told his boss that the compressor had shorted out. His boss said because I did not bring the car back immediately after being assured that the steam was normal, I have to pay $2,000 to repair my air conditioner.
