8 Reasons You Should Consider the New 2019 Lincoln Nautilus

It can be difficult for a luxury crossover to stand out in today's crowded and sometimes confusing marketplace, yet the new 2019 Lincoln Nautilus does just that. It separates itself from the German, Japanese and domestic competition with a distinctive combination of style, safety, space, luxury and technology. The Nautilus is a compelling package with up to 335 horsepower, available real wood and aluminum interior trim, Lincoln Co-Pilot360TM safety tech, an exclusive Black Label model, and a fresh, contemporary design.

Power and Performance

The Nautilus makes easy work of family vacations, date nights, daily commutes, and even trips to the home improvement store with plenty of muscle from either of its available engines. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder offers a stout 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, while the available twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 flexes with as much as 335 horses and 380 lb-ft. With so much power, this Lincoln can tow up to 3,500 pounds, too.

Both engines send power to the front or all four wheels via a modern eight-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode and shift paddles for direct control. Adding to the Nautilus' capability is an available adaptive suspension with Comfort, Normal and Sport modes to suit your mood, whether you prefer to relax with a smoother ride or rapidly unwind a favorite back road.

Technology

A robust suite of technologies available on the Nautilus keeps you safe, entertained and informed. The Nautilus is the first Lincoln to receive Lincoln Co-Pilot360 technology, which provides an electronic safety net. Features include automatic high beams, a backup camera with integrated washer, automatic emergency braking with pre-collision assist that can help lessen the severity of or even avoid an accident, and lane keeping assist that gently steers the vehicle back into the lane if it wanders toward or over the markers. Lincoln Co-Pilot360 — which is standard on every Nautilus — also includes blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, which uses radar to inform you of someone approaching in the next lane while traveling, or heading your way while you're backing out of a parking space.

When you're headed into a parking space, Active Park Assist can steer the Nautilus into parallel or perpendicular spots. Available adaptive cruise control can automatically brake to a stop from highway speed and accelerate back up again to follow the flow of traffic. It combines with a lane-centering function to reduce fatigue and take the work out of highway journeys. And you'll always know what's going on with the vehicle thanks to an easy-to-read, high-resolution 12.3-inch driver information screen that can be customized to display the information important to you.

Revel Audio and Infotainment

To make sure every trip rocks and rolls, the Nautilus offers two different high-fidelity Revel audio systems, one with 13 speakers and another with a staggering 19. Both feature sound-balancing Stereo, Audience and Onstage modes for an immersive audio experience. The intuitive Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment has Bluetooth and satellite radio connectivity. Amazon Alexa, Waze, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also incorporated so you can safely tuck your phone away and keep your eyes on the road.

SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link let you plan around snarls on your commute, check gas prices, get weather information and more. The available Lincoln Way app brings even more convenience, allowing you to reserve parking spots, schedule services or unlock the doors and start the engine remotely from your phone via the Nautilus' built-in cellular connection.

Luxury

Step into the well-appointed interior, and you'll find a leather-wrapped steering wheel, push-button ignition and transmission, voice-activated dual-zone automatic climate control, aluminum trim on the door panels and instrument cluster, and plenty of soft-touch surfaces. Of course, even more luxury is available via the Select and Reserve trims — items such as heated side mirrors, a panoramic sunroof and more. There's perhaps no greater luxury than time, and every Nautilus includes pickup and delivery service for maintenance appointments, including a loaner vehicle.

For those who want even more creature comforts, the Nautilus Black Label lines the interior with sumptuous materials such as Alcantara suede, open-pore wood trim, engraved aluminum, and Venetian leather. It also offers access to top-rated restaurants, free car washes and detailing, and a more personalized buying experience.

Styling

Lincoln has imbued the Nautilus with a stylish exterior that looks both athletic and sophisticated. It combines Lincoln's signature grille and full LED head- and taillights — the former available with a swiveling function to illuminate curves in the road — and a body sculpted with an elegant mix of flowing curves and tension-building creases. There are a number of 18-, 20-, and 21-inch wheel options, including stylish, turbine-look wheels similar to those available on the Navigator. At night, the Nautilus greets you with LEDs that sequentially illuminate to trace the headlights, glowing taillights and a crisply defined, Lincoln-logo "welcome mat" projected on the ground.

Inside, the cabin displays modern architectural influences and shapes, while available Brown Swirl Walnut and Espresso or Gray Ash Swirl trim on the center console, steering wheel and door panels lend a touch of midcentury sensibility. Organically treated Bridge of Weir leather can be ordered, and, unlike in many cars where the leather is embossed with a fake-looking grain pattern, it retains its natural texture.

Safety

Lincoln Co-Pilot360 certainly brings a comprehensive amount of safety technology to the table, but the Nautilus offers even more ways to keep occupants secure. There are eight standard airbags, including a pair for the driver and front passenger's knees. In addition, a crash-severity sensor works with the Sync 3 system to dial 911 from your Bluetooth-paired phone if a serious accident is detected.

The Enhanced Security package adds interior motion and vehicle inclination sensors to help prevent theft, and a 360-degree camera helps to avoid low-speed scrapes and fender benders. The full LED headlights provide a wide field of vision and bright, consistent light to see what's coming your way. And they are all the more effective with the adaptive feature that angles the light into turns.

Roominess

There's ample stretch-out space inside the Nautilus, with more front headroom and shoulder room than the Lexus RX and more rear head- and legroom than the Land Rover Discovery. The cabin is filled with lots of clever bins, nooks and cubbies for the necessities of daily life, including a pass-through tray under the center console and a media bin with a wireless phone charger.

Open the standard power-operated liftgate, and you'll find 37.2 cubic feet of cargo space — more than in the Cadillac XT5 and the BMW X5. Fold down the second-row seats and that space increases to 68.8 cubes, enough to swallow whatever life throws your way.

Comfort

Lincoln's newest SUV offers mega-adjustable Ultra Comfort front seats, each with 11 air cushions that enable 22-way adjustability, so you're sure to find the most comfortable position. Those seats will massage you, too, and seat cooling is available for sweltering summer days. Noise-canceling glass and interior treatments, along with the plush Comfort suspension setting, offer a respite from the strain of the daily grind.

Given the long list of available and standard driver assistance, infotainment, luxury, and safety features, anyone should feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel — or as a passenger. The new Nautilus is a standout option among the luxury crossover crowd.
