One of Audi's most iconic models, the 2022 Audi TT is no longer the sportiest two-door coupe/convertible combination out there, but you could make the case that it is the best-looking. The taut proportions and sleek roofline give it a posture that's both charming and aggressive. The TT is available as either a four-seat coupe or a two-seat convertible. Fair warning: You won't want to put anyone you call a friend into the coupe's back seat. Save it for those oversized weekend leather duffles.
Thanks to its standard all-wheel drive, the TT exudes confidence and poise on all manner of roads. Acceleration is brisk, but should you want a bit (or a lot) more power, Audi does offer the TTS and TT RS, which we review separately. Another positive note for the TT is its generous amount of standard equipment. While other coupes charge extra for things like real leather upholstery, a decent audio system and even a wireless phone charger, Audi rolls them in from the get-go.
While sport coupes are hardly a dime a dozen, shoppers looking around the TT's price point do have a decent and varied number of choices. BMW's freshly redesigned 2 Series offers satisfying performance and a bit more practicality than the Audi, while the Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster siblings provide nearly peerless handling, but at a steep price. Toyota's GR Supra is another option offering serious performance, while Ford's venerable Mustang delivers massive thrills and a high degree of customization at a lower price. While enthusiasts might want to look elsewhere, or at least to the speedier TTS and TT RS variants we cover in separate reviews, we like the well-rounded and stylish approach taken by the TT and we recommend you go and take one for a test drive.
Both the coupe and convertible are available in one trim level, so your major choices come down to paint color and whether or not you want the S Line Competition package. We prefer the way the TT drives without the somewhat stiff-riding S Line package. If you do want sportier handling, Audi does offer 19-inch wheels with summer performance tires as a stand-alone option.
The 2022 Audi TT is a small sports car available as either a four-seat coupe or a two-seat convertible (called the Roadster). Regardless of body style, the TT is sold in a single well-equipped trim level. The only powertrain is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system are both standard. If the TT's power output doesn't rev your engine, you can also check out the 288-hp TTS or the 394-hp TT RS. Both are reviewed separately.
