Mobile Web Users Choose Edmunds.com Over All Other Automotive Information Sites, Study Says

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — July 18, 2011 — Mobile web users log on to Edmunds.com more than any other automotive information site, according to a new study released today by mobile advertising leader Jumptap and digital business analytics source comScore. The study found that 17.1 percent of mobile consumers who access auto content visited Edmunds.com.

"Car buying is an inherently mobile process, and Edmunds.com has built a reliable mobile web platform that makes the experience easier for consumers," said Stephen Gandee, VP for Mobile and Emerging Technology at Edmunds.com. "By accessing Edmunds.com's wealth of automotive information to research independent pricing, specs and reviews for any vehicle they see on a dealer lot, these shoppers are gaining an upper hand in the car buying process."

The Jumptap/comScore report also revealed the remarkable overall growth of mobile users flocking to automotive sites. While visits to online auto sites grew 30 percent year-over-year, visits to mobile auto sites have grown 463 percent, more than 15 times the rate of growth for online visitation.

"It is clear that consumers — especially automotive consumers — are increasingly making mobile devices their primary access points for the Internet at an astonishing rate," said Paran Johar, Chief Marketing Officer at Jumptap.com. "As online behaviors change, there's enormous opportunity to engage with these audiences through relevant content and advertising."

In addition to accessing Edmunds.com's mobile web site, smartphone and tablet users can download Edmunds.com's free shopping app for new cars.
