Edmunds.com Launches Technology Blog

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- October 15, 2010 -- Edmunds.com, the premier online resource for automotive information, today announces the launch of its technology blog at http://technology.edmunds.com.

“Just as we have built a relationship with automotive consumers who appreciate becoming empowered by Edmunds.com and give back to the community through our Forums, we need to do the same with the technology community with whom we can exchange valuable information and ideas,” explained Edmunds.com CIO Philip Potloff. “A surprisingly large contingent within our 150-person technology team has volunteered to contribute to our new blog and expressed enthusiasm about participating in the dialogue.”

In the spirit of open source and inspired by the book Open Leadership by Charlene Li, the Edmunds.com technology blog will share the company's successes, failures and lessons learned in terms of the technology used to build and maintain the recently redesigned Edmunds.com and InsideLine.com sites.

New methodologies, legacy migrations, experimental paths and new iPhone apps are among the topics that will be discussed in detail. Inaugural posts include a discussion of the differences between Git and Perforce as well as one entitled “New Edmunds.com is Twice as Fast as Older Site” by Edmunds.com's Principal Software Engineering Architect Ismail Elshareef.

The company will also post its presentations that have been well-received by technical audiences, such as “A Holistic Approach to Building a High Performance Web Site,” which describes the performance-focused and speed-centric processes and technologies that the company used in recreating InsideLine.com. This presentation was originally given by Paddy Hannon, Edmunds.com's Vice President of Enterprise Software and Data Architecture, at the SpeedGeeks L.A. event at Shopzilla last October.
