Edmunds.com CEO Addresses TOWN HALL LA on What's Next for the Auto Industry

LOS ANGELES, CA. -- November 2, 2010 -- Jeremy P. Anwyl, Chief Executive Officer of Edmunds will address TOWN HALL Los Angeles on the future of the auto industry, including the highlights of the upcoming LA auto show. Anwyl's presentation will take place on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica.

It is one of the worst years of auto sales in decades, but according to industry statistics California auto sales are rebounding from the recession at a faster pace than most of the country. Said Anwyl, "Something that has not been acknowledged is the fact that this is the first widespread economic downturn in the Internet era...The volume and breadth of 24/7 inflated negativity assaulting the consumer from all sides is overwhelming and unprecedented."

Anwyl also commented on the new safety ratings announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "I apparently think about ratings very differently than NHSTA. The promotional materials produced by the agency make it clear that the primary objective of the new system was to push car companies to make 'safer' vehicles. My focus would be to develop ratings that are meaningful and useful to consumers. This would indirectly pressure car companies to make safer vehicles, but it would be an outcome, not an objective."

And on industry investment, specifically Tesla Motors, Anwyl said, "Even if this doesn't turn out well for investors it's good for the country that Tesla has gotten so much attention for its innovative efforts."

Having first gone online in 1994 as the first automotive Web site, Edmunds.com was ranked No. 1 on the Wall Street Journal's Survey of Car Shopping Web Sites and now also publishes InsideLine.com, CarSpace.com, and AutoObserver. Anwyl has been a top executive at Edmunds.com since 2000.
