2009 and up should have the 9A1 engine. However, there are retrofit kits available for the earlier engines. you can test for IMS bearing failure by cutting the oil filter in half and looking for tell-tale debris. If you catch it in time, you can install the upgrade kit (something like $3,000 installed). Most IMS bearing failures recorded come from 1997-2004 cars. So it's unlikely, but not impossible, that a 2004-2008 ... Read More

Okay, spoke with the Porsche experts. Their advice is that they have rarely seen a RMS (rear main seal) issue in the past few years with Boxsters at least, since all the problem children (earlier cars) have been taken care of already. As for the IMS, intermediate shaft bearing, issue, one still has to be careful. They felt that the earlier cars, say 2000-2008, are safer in that if a bearing ... Read More

  • Prices for 2008 Boxster S

    Written by: sie1 on Mar 14, 2009 3:38:13 PM

I plan to purchase a new 2008 Boxster S within the next couple of weeks. Has anyone had any experiences in buying a new Boxster. I noted that the 2007 closeout discounts were around 10-15% . However , with the bad economy and the fact that Porsche delayed the introduction of the 2009 models for 7 months, I 've heard talk of 25%-30% discounts being given. I've also noticed that the ... Hi bbell40941. That is a long time between posts for a discussion. Here's the informaiton that you're looking for. Porsche Financial Services' November buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a base 2009 Boxster with 15,000 miles per year are .00146 and 54%, respectively. This car's lease program varies by trim level, term, and mileage allowance. You never mentioned what any of these variables ... Read More

Pretty substantial rap sheet on the engine I've come across some info in direct contradiction to the reports of Porsche engine failures we've been getting from TTAC. The 2009 New Car issue of Consumer Reports is out and I looked at the Frequency of Repair Bullet charts for Used Cars and only 2005 MY Boxsters show a higher than average incidence of engine problems. In all of the other four years ... Read More

I have a 2009 Boxster with PDK. For some reason the car hesitates or slightly sputters sometimes. This is driving me crazy. The dealer says the car checks out ok but they've had some issues with the PDK clutch(es) slipping. My problems feels more like a fuel injection issue - like the engine is not getting fuel immediately. Does anyone else have this issue and has found a resolution? All replies ... Read More

Mr. Rogers, I think you're off a little with the Certified Pre-Owned warranty and how long it lasts. I'm pretty sure, it's 2 extra years to the factory warranty, which is 4 years and 50,000 miles. This is based on the in-service date and when the factory warranty expires. I doubt there are many or any 2002 Boxsters that are CPO. They would be expiring in 2008, unless they were sold ... Read More

Best handling roadster is the Boxster. I've driven a new Miata and S2000 after driving a couple of different Boxsters, 2008 and 2005, both S and base models. My daily driver is an RX-8, so I know a little about well handling cars. The Miata was too light, but great fun to toss into corners. It's light weight hurt it's traction as I was able to make the tires squeel without ... Read More
