Do you have any update to your 1999 Boxster? What have you done since then? Were you able to get any kind of resolution from Porsche? I also saw a class action law suit might be happening...

Here is a story that I need to share in hope I can spare someone else the same experience: My 1999 Boxster was recently diagnosed with the apparently very common intermediate shaft failure (IMS failure). The big surprise came when I heard the only way to fix this, is a complete engine replacement; $12000 for the part alone! Add the hours needed to put it in, and this is more then ... Read More

On impulse a couple of weeks ago I bought a ’99 Boxster from a San Diego Union ad - cheap price, 57,000 miles, and then got Eibach lowering springs, Bilsteins, new front brake rotors, brake pads all around, 4-wheel zero tolerance competition alignment, new front 225-45/17 Yoko Advan Neova tires, plus new rear window and a few other things including Mobil I oil change, brake fluid flush, and air filter. The ... Read More

I'm not sure what kind of deal you would be getting on a 7+ year old Boxster, but I would suggest you also at least consider a newer (or new) Honda S2000. My 2002 model gave me 2.5 years and 20,000 miles for a whopping $330 in total routine service costs (5 oil changes / 15k service). Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Porsche and love my 911S, ... I recommend you spend some time thoroughly reviewing the posts in this forum for others experience. I have a post (msg #514, page 27) on long-term experience. You need to get seriously educated on the elements of ownership for any Porsche before making a purchase decision. Sorry you have had problems with your Maxima, I am a real fan of Nissan products. Teenagers and Porsche's??? Sounds like a potentially dangerous and ... Read More

The Boxster cames with a radio code card (looks like a credit card) should come in the Owner's Manual. I also have a 1999, and know well that 9k is a reasonable price to rebuild it to a "new" engine. This is not really a new engine, but the cost of completely remanufacturing the old one. Knowing the problems Porsche had with the 1998's and 1999's engines, I bought a used ... Read More

No nonsense reliability was a major factor that steered me to a Honda S2000 over a Boxster S in 2002. From my Porsche owning friends, they would claim there is no substitute and that Porsches are very well made. My neighbor tried to continue to contend this as he had his 1999 base Boxster in the shop at least 2-3 times a year for "little things" like a repetitive power top ... Read More

There are some good websites to look for Boxsters but my experience was that the best websites are the Porsche dealer ones. I bought mine at Hoffman Porsche @ Hartford Ct. He had a very nice 2003 Boxster S with very few miles on it, blue exterior and beige interior. There is a dealer outside Philadelphia with a lot of Porsches and you can try www.luxurycars.com. They have a 2003 all ... Read More
