Re: Service Engine Soon [mtj67]

I am having problems with my 1999 Chevy Tracker 4x4 Convertible also. The check engine light keeps going on and off, and every once in a while it will flash. When it flashes, it gets very putsy. It has never stalled or anything, but I also do not believe it is getting near the gas mileage it should be. I am thinking that it needs to have the plugs replaced and ... Read More

If you look at the Suzuki Grand Vitara posts there was a problem with the timing chain tensioners from 1999-2002 approx. The fix is over $1000 at the dealer. Someone posted instructions and pictures of the problem and how to fix. I do not remember what post number it is.

So, I took it back to the dealer where I had bought it to get it fixed seeing I got the used car warranty and even upgraded it the day I picked up my Tracker. Before they hooked it up to the ... I have a 1999 Chevy Tracker I've had since new; 80,000 miles today. Nice little truck however, now I need some assistance. Last week, we put it in 4x4 high, no problems. Today, put it in 4x4 and nothing. The light on the dash will not light up and it don't engage into 4 wheel drive. I'm wondering if there is an electrical problem or a general adjustment that needs to ... Read More

Will a 1999 repair manual that covers the "J/E platform" be usable for a 2000 Chevy Tracker 4-door with 2.0 liter engine? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Not sure what the "J/E" stands for, but is for sale on internet and says "BOOKs 1 AND 2 COVERS: 1999 Chevy Tracker J/E PLATFORM". Also a picture of the books for sale shows a big J/E printed on the bottom of the book spines. Maybe this is referring to something else other than a type of tracker?? Anyway, maybe you can help -- are the 1999 Trackers basically the same ... Read More

SHOULD I BUY ONE?
Written by: frenchcar on Aug 14, 2003 8:24:48 PM
Why not buy one? The Trackers and Sidekicks and later the Vitarra are all built by Suzuki and some of them in the joint GM -Suzuki plant in Canada. They have been around since 1989 and we have owned 6 or 7 of them between myself, my wife and son. The 4 door is very handy and a nice size and economical for this type vehicle. I find that the power button on the transmission does increase the pick-up of the tracker and is pretty neat overall. I am wondering if that is the connection with the engine vibration. Also, I have put Yokihama tires on my Tracker, yes they are ... Read More

I have no problems with my 1999 4dr 4wd, other than low idil during the morning. But isn't a problem if a gas treatment is used. Actually, now that winter is basically a memory, this problem is less. There's nothing to complain about except Suzuki's 2.0 liter engine. Not a bad engine, should be tuned for about 140-150 horsepower from Chevrolet. Although, power has increased as the engine breaks in properly. ... Read More
